So you saying “Miles guys” just romanticize the fricking Florida 2007 game is ok but pointing out that statement coming from a Miles detractor may not be completely objective either is “deflecting”??

Ok, Aerys, careful of the cuts from that throne

This is why rarely venture to the fricking Rant anymore

Not what I said but keep reaching for those ignorant and false assumptions even though I’ve continually corrected you.

More irony and projection. I had almost forgotten how stupid Miles dick riders were.

We watched that game in Talledega superspeedway on the side of a big RV. The next day the fans were chanting LSU during cautions.

No way. Not even close. I was at the ‘97 game, but not at the ‘07 game. That Florida team in ‘97 played like dog shite. It was a great win for a scrappy Tiger team, but we did not get them even close to their best.

The 2007 Gators played a fantastic game, and the Tigers did too. That was a much better game between much higher caliber teams. The only games I would put against it are 2011 Bama (not in Tiger Stadium) and 1979 USC.

Such a fun offense. Perrilloux running the option was beautiful. So many solid players from that team. Seeing a young baby faced Ron Brooks on the sideline who eventually became a star for the 11 team.

Still have a piece of Tiger Stadium turf from the 97 game.

We sit in section 419 and I typically listen to the radio call while in the stadium. I remember people around us going nuts when I told everyone around us that USC lost. Then when it was announced it was just amazing.

It sounded like a jet engine, and I think we were still trailing?

I know Tebow’s phone blew up, but never believed that he had multiple death threats.

I probably watch this game at least once a year and every time the USC score reaction is shown it brings a tear to my eye. I just don't think Tiger Stadium can ever be this good again. The pure joy and unifying cry of hate coming out in that cheer was deafening. Like someone noted earlier, there weren't immediate scores so we relied on word of mouth to get scores. Hearing it over the PA was insane. Cups, drinks, shirts, the student section exploded.
Video of moment in stadium
The atmosphere on campus all week was electric. Student tickets were being sold for $300-400. Tebow's "number" got leaked and we all went nuts calling that number, whoever it actually was. LSU was undefeated and the defending national champs were coming to town. Student line started forming around 9:00am Saturday morning and stretched a long way up the hill, which it never really did. I think anticipation was high, but also nerves.

College Gameday from that day

Great College Gameday. I was in line at 5am

Student Section Pregame

Obviously first half was super tense, but that USC score announcement really lit a fire in the crowd, especially the student section. "Neck" was really becoming a crowd favorite. There was no chanting, just the hand motion.

Tiger Droppings OGs will remember that 2 weeks earlier, the student section had added "cocks" to the OWEO chant for the USC game and it got banned. "frick you Spurrier" chants also abounded. We argued about that banning for weeks. Little did we know the future of Neck, lol.

I think you can see and hear the tension throughout the third quarter and into the fourth. The crowd was loud and focused that second half. It just never really got quiet. There was no stupid piped-in music, just the crowd and TGBFTL to lead us. The crowd as a whole just used to feel more football savvy and the students felt a responsibility to feed the atmosphere in a way I just dont see anymore. The South endzone was not the ugly monstrosity it is today, neutered by excess and riches. It was still the south endzone of yore, the cajun section, the loud "adult" section.

When you watch the game back, the camera views of the crowd capture that night perfectly. The sea of humanity, the purple and gold of the crowd, moved in unison and really gave it's all to pull the Tigers through. Hester was incredible all night and Miles's insistence on believing in the team to get it done was undeniably intoxicating. The pure hatred for Florida and Tebow definitely added to it. In 2007, Florida was the most hated team for 99% of all LSU fans. They had ruined our perfect season in 2003, and there was no existential Alabama threat really.

Last Play of game, view of students

It was the perfect night. My Dad swears 79 USC was better and I have no doubt it was for him, but I think this game definitely gives that one a run for it's money.

Couldn't tell if I was breathing or not.

ETA: I just remembered, there were people running up and down the aisles saying that USC had lost and people were like "no way" and then it was announced.

Goosebumps still.

I posted this under loudest moments not involving game deciding plays, so I'll post it here as well:

I've been going to games for 38 years. The loudest was the 2007 Florida game when they announced the USC loss to Stanford.

There have been plenty of loud moments after LSU scores a TD including the Hester TD in that FLorida game. There have been plenty of moments of crowd sustained noise when our defense was on the field.

Here's why that USC moment was different.

First of all, LSU was #1 in one poll and USC was #1 in the other poll. As the season progressed, LSU had looked more impressive than USC and was gaining votes in USC each week. This was the first time LSU had been ranked #1 during the season since 1959 (someone fact check me on this). There was the friction between LSU and USC over the 2003 national championship, so USC had become a hated rival even though we didn't play during that time.

The I-phone had just rolled out in 2007 and not everyone had them, but word started to spread in the stands that USC had lost. When they made the announcement, it was a realization that LSU was about to be the unanimous number 1 team in the county if we win this game.

The funny part is that LSU had just scored to cut the Florida lead to 17-14. They made the announcement during the commercial break, everyone goes nuts and Florida promptly goes on a 80 yard drive in about 4-5 plays and extends the lead to 24-14.

But for two minutes during that commercial break, everyone, including the players on the sidelines went absolutely bananas. It's something I've never seen in that stadium, but to be in that moment, was tremendous.

Disagree because the legit quietest I've ever heard Tiger Stadium was after the Yeldon screen pass

that moment was the first time in many of our lives that we KNEW we were going to be #1 in every damn poll in the country.

Game was boring until very end

Yep. Everyone remembers the ending, but it wasn't all that entertaining up to that point. Basically three quarters of good defense, but largely nothing of note, until the end.

The OP is right. That 2007 Florida game is still the best.

It was a warm, very humid, October night. Florida was the defending champion and LSU was thought to be the favorite in 2007. The matchup had lost a little bit of luster going into the game because Florida has lost the week before to Auburn. Sill, it was a big enough game that, IIRC, CBS took the unprecedented step (at that time) of moving the kickoff to 7:00 pm instead of the usual 2:30.

The pregame hype was big. LSU fans had gotten Tebow's cell phone number! But the actual game exceeded all expectation. I haven't experienced so many emotional swings and tension watching a game...ever. Florida jumped out to a 10 point lead...LSU responded...Florida regained the 10 point lead...LSU responded to make it 17-14. The crowd is going nuts...then Dan Borne announces the USC/Stanford score during the commercial break and the stadium exploded knowing an LSU win would put them at #1. We had seen LSU win a NC 4 years before. But very few people had seen LSU play during the season as the #1 team in the nation.

It was a surreal moment watching the crowd and LSU sideline going crazy. It felt like LSU had all the momentum in that moment...then Florida gets the ball and in 5 plays LSU blows a coverage to leave a guy WIDE open for a TD to make it a 10 point game again. The stadium went from a frenzy to completely deflated in a matter of minutes. The 4th quarter was tense and Les became the "Mad Hatter" that night. No one! Even those in the chairback section who always sit, sat down in the 4th. That final drive with 4th down after 4th down was nerve-wracking as it seemed to last forever. The Hester TD to take the lead was almost more of a relief than exhilarating. The final drive was THAT tense and many probably forget LSU never led in that game until the final minute.

Only one time in my life have I ever been physically exhausted by simply just watching a football game. That was it. I remember siting in my car, in traffic, wet from sweat and humidity, just completely spent.
