The last remaining obstacle to expanding the College Football Playoff to 12 teams in the 2024 and 2025 seasons has been cleared.

A source told ESPN on Wednesday night that the Rose Bowl has agreed to terms that will pave the way for the College Football Playoff to expand in the final two seasons of the current contract -- 2024 and 2025.

Any more steps toward an announcement are a formality, as the formal announcement of the playoff expansion beginning in 2024 is expected to be imminent.

This is great. The only issue is the auto bid for conference winners. It should be top 12 teams no auto bids.

ETA: People are too stupid to realize what this means. If Purdue beats Michigan this weekend, unranked Purdue would make the playoffs.

There should be no auto bids. All at large.

I wish it would have been 6 or 8 teams. But either way this will make things more interesting.

My only concern is player being gassed by the end of the year due to the extra games

Good. The past 5 years of Clemson, Bama, Ohio State, and Lincoln Riley teams have mostly been repetitive

I would imagine we play one less non conference game. They are going to have change the regular season schedules

12 teams is too much. At the end of the season there’s a huge difference between teams ranked 1 & 2 and 11 & 12.
8-12 will get mauled in these playoff games. I think it should be 6 teams with 1 & 2 getting a bye

We will get a first hand look at any parity between 1 and 12-15ish teams.

Hopefully this weekend gives everyone more reason to support 12.

RIP to the college football that I fell in love with. They should have never done a playoff system and should have stuck with the BCS.

There will always be surprises in a playoff. You think the lower ranked will get smashed, and they will, there’s always going to be an outlier. Makes things more fun and interesting. Love that the playoffs will go to 12 teams. Also love not being out of it after one or two losses during a year.

Because they already have contracts in place. At least that’s what I’m assuming.

It’s what made college football so exciting and competitive. Every game and play mattered. College football was its own sport.

Yup. Sport is turning into a pro league. Part of what makes CFB so great is that every game matters. That will no longer be the case.

Every week was a playoff, there was no other sport like it.
