And how the hell is Alabama, with a rebuilt offensive line and a new quarterback, ranked 8th nationally in total offense?

Per ESPN:

LSU, offensively, is currently #91 in total yards, #105 in YPG, #78 in passing yards, #88 in passing YPG, #71 in rushing, #76 in rushing YPG, #43 in pts and #53 in pts per game, averaging to roughly #76 overall.

Defensively, the Tigers are #21 in total tackles, #81 and #11 in INT, averaging to roughly #38 overall.

Our opponents thus far:

Washington: #68 in offense, #86 in defense ... LSU won by 8
Vanderbilt: #65 in offense, #22 in defense ... LSU won by 14
UL-Lafayette: #85 in offense, #61 in defense ... LSU won by 28
Mississippi St.: #66 in offense, #71 in defense ... LSU won by 4

Cause, the have a plan on what they need year in and year out. The Head coach and Offensive coordinator are on the same page. This all comes down to what you recruit every year. I remember Meeting Saban a few years ago while he was recruiting a player of mine. He has a plan to everything he does. I promise, if he had shep, he would use him in ideal situations, that would make his team successful. Its ashame, i say that cause i really like Miles. But something isnt, working. I know i wouldnt run the Wing-t with Brock Berlin. Thats how i fell bout the tigers, its so frustrating

The really important stat:
LSU 4 wins, 0 losses

And Georgia's 95th in total defense. They were 108th last week. We'll be able to put up points. I'm confident for next week.

Yes, everybody, we realize the OL sucks. That does not mean we have to run to the short side every time we run the fricking ball. The OL sucks but so does the play calling!

If we can't get a running game going, we are pretty much SOL on offense

this is total BS. When you run 5 straight running plays to start the game, it becomes ridiculously easy to predict, and allows defenses to cheat up and becomes easier to defend. I am not a paid professional, and I can tell what our offense is about to do, so what do you think the opposing coaches are thinking?

There is such a thing as using the pass to open up the run. Please reference LSU 2001.

Easy to predict offenses are also easy to stop.

nope same stats, look at the yards per game, thats what ranks us at #105. if you look at each component, its different, so overall (averaging the 8 stat lines) we're not #105:

a subtle difference in philosophy...one (Bama's), has a general philosophy of finding ways to create a successful offense based on the strengths of the players they have. If there are plays that aren't successful, they'll find different ones that are. These guys are consistent through the years...

the other (Crowton and other "system" guys) believe that their system will succeed once the players are able to execute it. If there are plays that aren't successful, they'll try to correct the issue with the players vs. tweaking the play. These guys are great when they have the key components in place, and usually struggle when they don't...

Frankly I prefer the first type of guy, plus I think our team is built to have an i-formation, play-action based attack.

Yards per game is how they rank total offense (heh). And LSU's 105th.

We are 4 - 0 and saving the good stuff for Florida

I wouldn't worry so much about this stuff if we had a dominate defense... but we don't.

Ok. You are right.
We are #105 in yards per game.
And since we have played defensive behemoths UW, USL,Vandy and MSU I feel better about our futility.
Things will get easier with Florida,Auburn, Bama, Ole Miss etc...
Nice p&g shades by the way...

The answer is simple -- Crowton not doing his job well at this time.

1. if they only use that to rank its dumb, i like looking at the overall picture including points scored, PPG, passing, receiving etc. Don't call me dumb or a bimbo.

2. I hear ya, its going to be rough, my point was to actually show that we are a little better than #105, but our opponents have dictated we should be better than where we are as well. In no way should we be beating teams by less than 2 TDs with offenses ranked in the 60s
