To be fair, if you don’t have the horses up front, I don’t know of many people that CAN stop the old power game.

LSU will be utilizing a 3-4, 4-3 AND the Green Team this year. They will not be lined up in a 3-4 every play.

Aranda is a brilliant strategist and he's not a one trick pony. One of his best attributes is in game adjustments. This is the most complete D he's had since being at LSU and I fully expect Aranda to let the dogs loose.

His first year was absolutely lights out. If they are better than that, I am very excite!

Interesting that both offense and defensive coaches at LSU are evolving making dramatic changes in the same year.

I don’t think there are going to be any dramatic changes on defense this year. This is silly.

Don’t be dense. It was probably the current Wisc D coordinator reaching out to a friend or another coaching buddy on vacation

Could have been BUT Eaux has been saying that LSU was going to more aggressive and more of an attacking style of defense this year. Even the DB's have echoed that.

Dave has always been more of a read and react.

It was a coaching buddy from Connecticut, Ree, so that rules out Coach O.

Yep well said.... The defense left our offense out to dry too much last year! I hope Aranda sees the writing on the wall and gets it together.... O can’t keep propping Aranda up!!what do we pay this guy for?!?!

I remember seeing an interview with Coach Aranda right when he was hired and he talked about getting the basic concepts put in. He went on to say that once his players understand those, he will expand what they can do and it will open a lot of options. Maybe some of this is a result of some guys who have a few years learning his system and he is now adding more for them.

I was excited to read about this. Being locked into one style or formation is outdated. Offenses are constantly changing.

Cody Worsham tweet linked in this post:

"Here are a few Coach O is keeping an eye on.
- Nose tackle
- 4-3 defensive tackles
- Green team
- Tailback
- Left guard"

Quote from Kary Vincent:
"The coaches have put me in a lot of positions to make a lot of plays this year. We've opened up our playbook. We've really opened up our defensive playbook this year, so you'll see me doing a lot of stuff. I won't just be in coverage this year, I'll tell you that."

I don't think that's unusual for Aranda's D. Like I mentioned earlier, Aranda is not a one trick pony. He will use multiple defensive formations.

Have disruptive D-linemen in a 3-4 scheme. Not all 3-4’s are the same.

I remember a lot of talk of Aranda running a 1-gap 3-4 when he was hired, and how he didn't necessarily need the big space-eating NT.

This was a pretty long thread about it

I think we'll be fine. any issues we had last year were "Jimmys and Joes" related, and provided we stay reasonably healthy, this defense should be nasty all year.

Depth and injuries. Last year's lack of depth at the D line and injuries took it's toll. That's the past. This year's D will be remembered.

Chaisson going down last year was a big deal for how this defense ran in regards to disruption/pressure.
