I wonder whether the league coaches were the impetus behind this or the TV networks.

The ONLY ONLY ONLY ONLY way I will be okay with this is if it leads to more games being run on the linear channels and not stream only.

There is no reason to do this unless it is hell get more games on tv.

LSU has only played one game in school history where a team overcame a ten-run deficit in the 7th or later ever...Mississippi 1988.

This is such horseshite. This does nothing but screw both teams out of getting young players experience during a blowout, or, you know, coming back and winning the damn game as sometimes happens in every freaking sport. Storming back in blowout is one of the best things in sports, when you have a freshman go off and the entire team goes nuclear and storm back down big. This is so stupid and short sighted. Hopefully it doesn't spread to Omaha

We came back from a 9-1 deficit v Arkansas, thanks to a rogue opossum in the outfield

Right….so that could still happen under the current rules

@tpolitz

Only 1 time in the @SEC era has @LSUbaseball or its opponent come back from such a deficit (4/10/88 vs. Ole Miss).

That’s not the point. It’s a pussification of America slippery slope. If they think this is ok then they’ll change more rules like putting a runner on 2nd to start the inning in extra innings.

They want to do all they can to shorten baseball games because baseball is “sooo boring” and the social media generation doesn’t like it without actually fixing the problems. They want to frick with the game itself and not do things like shorten commercials, shorten and reduce reviews, etc. But they’d rather frick with the game than frick with their wallet.

You know how you can avoid them stopping the game short and you needing a 10 run comeback in the 8th and 9th inning?

Don’t get down by 10 freaking runs in 7 innings.

Especially in a game like baseball, where an ace can shut you down for 7 and your team starts shelling the bullpen. You may rarely actually pull of the win, but it can give you a lot of momentum going into the next game.

Also, it becomes a new strategy of preserving arms and makes it more likely that a team will choose to tank and save arms having to play only 1 or 2 more innings rather than 3 or 4. That could be good or bad depending on your team's pitching depth, but it definitely changes the game.

Again easy way to fix this is not be down by 10 runs when the ace is pulled.

You guys act like there isn’t a very avoidable way that is in your control to not be put in this situation.

Exactly. This is one of the main reasons why I feel it's short sided and this would be my exact response to the poster who replied to me with "well thats why you don't get down 8-9 runs late in games"
Dude, this is college baseball in the freaking SEC. I've seen some weird, quirky shite spark a baseball team to storm back when they were down I believe 9 runs?

I believe it was a possum running onto the field and lifting us on its wings to fly off with a dub that night but I could totally be wrong. LET THEM PLAY 9 INNINGS!!

Most of the time that doesn’t happen… every level before college has mercy rules

That being said, 10 runs as a mercy rule is a little bit low of a number for college baseball. Should be 15

How many SEC games in the last 10 seasons has a team rallied from down 10+ after 7 innings to get a win?

Surely that was in the 8th of 9th inning right? That’s what you are complaining about. No one is saying 10 run rule after 4 innings.

How many times has it happened after 6 innings? 5?

Let's call the game after 5 since that's an official game.

Youre getting really old and it’s showing. Just because you don’t want to be there for the last 2 innings doesn’t mean the players and coaches don’t want to play a full game.
