Really good beam routine

Zero mental toughness and the development of individual gymnasts isn't very good.
Look at these programs like Auburn, Missouri, Kentucky who have lesser talent yet putting out more polished routines with athletes not as good as LSUs.
I mean obviously LSU has great gymnasts but development of key pieces outside of your star athletes (Kiya, Haleigh) is the difference. Look at OU, their coach took multiple walk on's and developed them into all Americans and solid pieces. We haven't been able to do that.

Gnat take over? DD finish out the year?

Is Gnat a paid Asst? Does she even know what it takes to instruct / coach?

I mean - Jay’s flawed strategy of holding onto the super seniors with a death grip is going to show. We have no one that can fill in for Kiya - because he hasn’t developed any one technically nor has he given anyone the opportunity to hit in pressure situations. And I know people will say we are rushing to things - but the decline at Georgia and now here. I think he’s a great recruiter and assistant but something is missing in the head coaching realm.

They had her ankle wrapped in ice. That would be better than her Achilles as far as recovery time for her. Either way sadly she is probably done for the year. It didn’t look good

I'm praying really hard she isn't done for the year but its evident that even with a healthy Kiya, we have much bigger issues that we won't be able to overcome.

This nightmare meet leading into facing OU. Yikes!

First of all, I’m not saying we should fire Jay Clark right now but I’m just responding to the possible replacements.
Gnat has been in control of beam and it hasn’t been going well. Routine construction is very questionable. We haven’t had a great beam team since she has been in that role.
DD is a personality but it was more than her personality that got the girls to be within an inch of a national title more than once.
For me, it’s all in the details. Week after week we are so close to a great meet but the small things get us. Tonight it was more of bad luck but that seems par for the course with Kentucky.
They have got to figure this out. I watch us and we look more like I remember UK and Auburn looking a few years back while they have improved. We are slipping in the SEC big time. Something has to change.
Hopefully this was just a cursed meet and they can pull it together. If Kiya is out then we will suffer but there are other gymnasts waiting in the wings who have potential. Better they get out out there now than later.
The fact that we ended with a 196.775 is amazing.
Arenas stepped up on beam big time. There are some things to build upon, here.
Edit: 196.575. Not sure what I saw.

Very very happy for Elena! I know it doesn’t matter (win wise) but at least we (somewhat) kept it together on the beam

I thought I saw her grab her ankle, not her Achilles area??

I feel really bad for the girls, especially the seniors. If the year really is to be a rebuilding year, hope that it’s used wisely (aka we should be seeing a lot more of the underclassmen).

I say we can’t use Bryce on beam Monday. Obviously we won’t see Kiya. Wonder who fills those shoes.
Posted on 1/13/23 at 6:53 pm to russiangym
I think Kiya is the only senior?
Posted on 1/13/23 at 6:55 pm to tlricks04
Elena and Alyona. Alyona already has the experience (unless Jeffery has been training beam in which case I say go with her because her form is exquisite)
Posted on 1/13/23 at 6:57 pm to whoa
I think Alyona is also a senior

Elena gets hero of the night. And this after I doubted her going in for kiya.
Posted on 1/13/23 at 7:02 pm to khill715
I also doubted her and so glad I was proven wrong! She did well on her other events too!
