Jordan would absolutely shite in college playing Maravich.
Maravich would dominate with just his passing skills. Plenty of other scorers on that team.

Ben Simmons- all american and first pick in draft
Come on man, Rudy Macklin was a first team all American on. Final Four team. Simmons would be lucky to make the bench

I can’t be biased here. I would love to say LSU would roll thru that bracket, but the truth is no.
LSU would beat every team in all those brackets with the starting 5.
Jordan wasn’t the defensive player he was in the pros.
NO player could guard Pete.
Jerry Reynolds would be my 3 at 6’8-9” with a 7’2 wingspan who could guard all those stretch 4’s.
Hell imoght put Simmons at 4.
LSU would have 3 GREAT ball handlers and a player that was as domina inside as anyone in the history of the game. Shaq could flat out run and jump at 280 in college.

Worthy also played at UNC

quote:funny thing is many on here never saw Joe Dumar from McNeese State own Jordan until 1990 ish. That is 6 years in the NBA. Go look at the match ups with them head to head and the truth comes out how Dumars was in his head. Later Mad Max did the same damn thing. Jordan used that left to push off all the time.

I think he was an awesome player and arguably the greatest. However,Wilt makes a damn strong case. I saw them both in their prime and Wilt was dominant as I’ve ever seen.

People love to dump on Wilt, but he dominated Russell head-to-head, averaging 28 and 28. That's against what many say is the best defensive center in history.
And I would have loved to see Pete play on a team he didn't have to carry, as far as scoring. He could always find the open man.

I am so sick of hearing about wilt and russell. Those were the only 2 big men in the league back then, and what were there 4 franchises? Russell was what 6-3, 225? I know both above statements are hyperbole, but could you IMAGINE a 7-1, 325 Shaq (who had the agility of a small forward) playing in the 60's and 70's against those 2 and all the other team's 6-7 honky centers with tape on their glasses? Shaq would have been EVERY BIT as dominant as wilt in that era.

Perhaps Scales over Macklin. But great lineup.

Chamberlain was 7'1 and a very fluid athlete. Shaq NEVER had the agility of a small forward. He was ALL raw power in the post. That's not to say he wouldn't be a load for anyone trying to guard him (including Chamberlain), but to completely discredit the past players is silly.
I don't think he would have been that dominant then, because the game was different back then and far less physical. Shaq's biggest strength was his strength and his ability to just push guys under the basket and leave them helpless. I don't think he would have been allowed to do that as much in the 50's, 60's. Hell, college basketball outlawed the dunk for 8 years because of Kareem. Without the dunk, Shaq isn't much of a scorer.

My man, when you watch 1990's Shaq out on the floor, he moved like he was 6-6. Remember how he would grab the board, DRIBBLE COAST TO COAST, and either dunk, lay it in, or pass off for the assist? He was every bit as athletic as Wilt, plus he was 50 lbs heavier. You do make a good point on whether or not he would have been allowed to bull his way to the hoop like the modern game allows, but if the games Shaq played in were called straight up, the other team's front line would have fouled out by halftime. The refs simply could not call the defense fairly against Shaq, or he would have shot 80% from the floor and averaged who knows how many points.

What amazing players does Texas have
DJ Augustin
Avery Bradley
Tristan Thompson
yeah, LSU would dominate Texas.
Kevin Durant
But KD had the worst game of his career vs LSU with Tas guarding him. Add Myles Turner or Boobie Gibson, Aldridge, PJ Tucker, LSU wins that one big.

And Shaq never had the agility of the young Wilt.

You're right, Shaq was MORE AGILE than wilt, and ok there were FOUR centers and a bunch of eddie haskells playing center back then.EVERY blanking team had a 7 footer when Shaq played, and some teams had more than one. People tend to forget Shaq leading the fast break MULTIPLE times in the pros and college.

The more caps you use, the less I listen.

Has anyone done Kentucky yet?
Anthony Davis & Dan Issel for sure. Then you have to an incredibly long list of other great KY players to choose from.
Auburn is weak. After Barkley & Person not much else. Maybe Chris Porter.
Bama has had lots of good players, but their best 5 would also be weak.

LSU with Marivich and CJ in the back court would win every game. NONE of those teams would have close including MJ duke teams. None. Why? Shaq at the 5 and Pettit at the 4 with John Williams, Reynolds, Tyrus Thomas or anyone else at the 3. Would absolutely kill those teams. Jordan would absolutely shite in college playing Maravich. This is the college Jordan and not the Pro Jordan. Huge difference defensively.
Comparing starting 5s, LSU is as good as anyone ever - Shaq, Pettit, Simmons, Maravich, CJ.
It's more difficult in comparing benches (i.e. the 13 best players of each team).
My 13 of LSU:
C: Shaq, Roberts
PF: Pettit, Scales, Swift
SF: Simmons, Macklin, Reynolds
SG: Maravich, Thornton
PG: CJ, Livingston (mythical no injury), Martin
I still like LSU with those 13 guys to compete. Reynolds could play 4 positions, was athletic and a solid defender.
Livingston (pre-injury) would have been Jason Kidd-esque.
People forget just how good Stanley Roberts was. It was a huge shame he couldn't get out of his own way. Same thing can be said about Scales.
I had trouble leaving guys like G. Davis, H. Carter, and T. Thomas off the list, but thought I'd go with the other guys instead.
These 13 guys at the top of their game, injury-free would be as good as anyone.

LSU should get to the Final Four in this . I RA'd for sticky

LSU has maybe one weakish spot and that's Macklin.
You could plug in any number of former tiger greats, including Ben Simmons in that 5th spot.
Games between even North Carolina's best 5, and UCLA's best 5 against ours would be tossups.

Yep....Shaq was much more agile then Wilt.
He was a freak of nature.
A 7 foot man with a normal proportioned body.
Wilt was 7 foot tall with 6 foot legs.
And let’s not talk about dunking.
It’s not like Wilt had an outside shot.
