I'd be OK with Baker as HC

He would provide some much-needed continuity & consistency in the team.
He would need to bring in a completely new O.
The money we would save keeping him could let us buy a NEW 2 deep much needed OL.
I'd base his salary entirely on performance, with a 4M base for 4 years and extra for wins, SEC championship and playoffs appearances. The kicker, if he wins a NC, he gets to be the highest paid coach in all of college for the next year.

That’s the move you make if you strike out on literally every top candidate and it means you failed miserably. To make that move voluntarily up front is laughable. Very much like people wanting to hire Frank. Would you hire these people as head coach if they weren’t already on the staff.? No. That should tell you something.

we need an offensive minded coach, preferably someone with an innovative streak... in modern CFB, the game is geared towards more offensive production, so we need a coach that understands that and can implement gameplans and strategy to take advantage of the new normal in CFB

Don’t discount Wilson being named HC after this “heartwarming” display. It will be much like Orgeron.
After we get turned down by Kiffin and a couple other big names, it will be a rage hire by Landry and the BOS with Ausberry as their puppet.
