Turf gets that hot.
I coach baseball and I normally get a new pair of shoes each year because the bottoms are melted.

I wasn’t denying turf is hotter than air. I meant taking a temperature reading in an area that is known to be hotter than the mean.

There are ways to cool it if need be. It's likely not needed most places and on most days but mid-day in the south in September would probably be such a case.
