The outlier freshman phenoms have really twisted reality for too many people.

Most freshman QBs have no business starting for a college team. That is reality.

Those freshman QBs that do start are almost always put into simplified schemes with simplified plays. That is reality.

Most HS QBs don't get many reps or playing time before their senior year. A lot of them do not have elite QB developers as coaches. However, some of those HS QBs go on to have brilliant college careers if they get developed while in collge. That is reality.

In short, one year in HS and a year or two in college can turn a talented QB into an elite QB. Two or three years can do it.

ZVR has the tangibles. He has an elite arm and elite size. No bad habits.

He has at least two years, probably three and maybe four, to learn how to be a QB from an elite QB developer. He will also have time to learn from coaches outside of LSU.

It could happen. I choose to be optimistic.

He also has never played QB in a competitive football game

I doubt he throws it any better than any QB on our team. QBs that have actually QBed

X 1000. I know the young man and his family, tremendous athlete with tremendous character.

LSU will have a great athlete who will walk on at LSU, what part of that do they not understand. What could possibly be negative about that, unless Zack ends up earning a scholarship by starting and their kid loses one.

I don't think anybody is claiming anything negative about this

just some are a bit skeptical that he will ever see the field, especially at QB, at LSU

I sincerely hope he becomes the next Wienke, Weeden, etc, but I'm pretty sure all the successful minor league to college QBs had at least some QB experience before

Did anyone else hear his interview with Moscona?

He literally said "he hadn't done anything football related since high school."

When asked what he's been doing to prepare he said "I've been kicking and training, and throwing a little bit."

He may have potential down the line, but I just don't seem him competing for QB any time soon. I'd love to be wrong. He came off a bit cocky at times, but he also sounded like he understands the position he's in and that he has a lot of work to do. I can only hope he's willing to put it in. But this should not be our solution to our lack of good QB depth.

The idea of a 6'5" strong armed QB is tantalizing to the memory, bringing back flashes of Davey, Russell and Mettenberger but the realization of that possibility is pretty slim with a man that hasn't played the position and slim is being generous.. With that, I'd love to see him succeed and being a walk-on provides LSU with a low risk chance at a great story.

While I'm not going to hold out hope that he will solve our last decade of QB woes (sans Mettenberger), these type of walk-ons certainly add to the character and maturity of the overall team. And occasionally, you get gems out of these walk-ons like John David Moore. Glad to have him aboard.

I don't get all the damn hate for this dude walking on the team. Who gives a shite what position he plays. Dude is an elite level athlete... And mature... He signed for what 1mil in the 6th round or some shite like that. That means he has the ability to perform at an elite level. If it's at punter or QB who gives a shite... Enjoy the ride. He isn't taking anyone's scholly. Most of you people didn't get off the bench in high school much less be good enough to even make all district or something...

That's what's wrong with this place... Always so god damned negative and full of a bunch of non athletic know it alls

Zack Von Rosenberg who was just released from his ML baseball team, will walk on at LSU for football. Zack won 4 La state titles in baseball, 3 for Zachary High, was also a 1st team all state punter. Zack could also throw the football a country mile and on a rope according to former Zachary players. He didn't play QB in high school only because he was such a highly touted baseball prospect and coaches didn't want to take a chance of him getting hurt, so he punted. But Zack wanted the ball, he wanted to play.

Zack would excel at almost any sport, he has such unbelievably high athletic abilities, he can literally play anywhere on the football field except the line and has a super competitive nature. This could turn out to be a really big deal for LSU. I hope LSU coaches try him at QB first, LSU fans will then get to see what I'm talking about.

I watched this kid play baseball in HS and people will say I'm crazy but I think he will compete for the starting QB position right away. Tools and intangibles are off the charts.

If ZVR ends up as the starting punter in a year or so, then it is win for LSU, IF he ends up competing for the QB spot in a couple of years, then it is a home run for LSU.

I for one hope he proves all the doubters wrong and ends up being the next Matt Mauck.
