Has to be one of the worst football power classes in history. Just terrible. Has to kill ND that Brian Kelly had a complete rebuild on his hands yet still chose our program over one he built. That prestige just keeps taking hits.

Marcel Brooks (TCU)
Always going to be a “what if” guy. He looked destined to be the next great rushing LB from LSU and pissed it away.

What’s even more crazy is that class was ranked 5th by the On3 Site. It just goes to show you how an inexact science recruiting and projecting HS players to college is. So many things go into a kid transitioning into college, much less college and big time college football.

Of course, we'll never know how these guys would have developed if they had had good coaching in their freshman and sophomore years (20 and 21). (This is not to say that all the position coaches were bad, but the chaotic state of the program certainly inhibited the kind of steady development that is necessary to reach an elite level for all but the most naturally gifted athletes.) By the time Kelly arrived it might have been too late for some of them to reach the potential they might have had as entering freshmen.

CBS has Ika at the #2DL, #18 overall in the 2023 draft... Amazing.
Always liked him and hated to see him transfer but the CEO plan to go 4-3 negated him.

Wow. That’s a lot of swing a misses.

Wonder if swings and misses or the coaches and staff just hung them out to dry once here, hampering their college development. Either way--definitely needed the changing of the guards to fix the issue.

You can thank Bo Pelini and Shrimp Boat Capt for the losses of Brooks and Ika. I have no animosity towards either player for leaving, both made big contributions to our natty run.

Just reminding me of it has me big mad.

The guy weighed/weighs like 195.
The marcel brooks "next great lsu rusher" was way overblown.
Don't you think he would've found some success rushing the passer at tcu?
He has 8 total tackles and 1.5 sacks. 1 sack was a free rush to the passer. He had 3 overall tackles at tcu this yr.

Brooks is interesting because there's no questions about his talent. We've all see it first hand. Think he's similar to Phillip Webb(without the injuries and a better overall athlete) as a man without a position due to his frame. Born to be an edge rusher in terms of skill but not physically. Classic tweeners. Difference is Brooks athleticism should translate to space and for some reason doesn't. I'd think it's mental without truly knowing what the issues are.

His stats look like that because he was playing offense at TCU until recently. He wanted to play offense, even though it wasn’t his best position. He’s an athlete, but IMO (and others), he’s a 5* on the defensive side. Only a 3* on the offensive side

It was fun because he was a 190lb dude just running around a 320lb guy. It was the trindon Holliday at DE theory and it worked for a few plays
All in all Brooks was not that talented.
There was a long list of things they found he couldn’t do:
play safety, play LB, play WR, pass drug tests.
The list of things he was good at: ?????

He reminds me of Jacoby Stevens. A 5* tweener athlete that takes awhile to find a position to best utilize his skill set.
The difference is, Jacoby was open to playing anywhere the coaches wanted to try him. Whereas, Marcel Brooks was more suited for a big in the box safety, kind of like Jacoby, or, if he put on weight, a pass rush specialist

Dude, brooks obviously wasn't a 5 star on the defensive side. He switched to offense at tcu after again not finding a spot on defense.
It's almost like lsu fans made up this crazy future for him that was never going to pan out.

They’ll probably end up with at least 8 draft picks from that class which isn’t great, but it’s not terrible either. Especially with how high Stingley went. What’s crazy is they might have more draft picks than contributors at LSU. I only count 7 who had a real impact here:
Stingley
TDP
Flott
Ward
Bradford
York
Emery

This. If reports that he resisted change are true, he was his own worst enemy.
