Also if he commits does that leave room for Days if he decides to return to LSU?

Mitchell can shoot outside and attack the rim. It's not even a contest to me. When the shots are not falling outside, you need to be able to do something else to score when you're at least 6'8".

How soon will it be determined if Days will return, or is the consensus here that Wade already knows?

Is there any indication when Mitchell will announce where he will transfer?

Days has until July 7th to decide officially, but I'm sure Wade will know well before then.

Mitchell is essentially Trendon Watford with a little bit better outside shot but not as much quickness to blow by people off the dribble. Certainly any team would like a guy like that on their team, but Days was a more efficient scorer/rebounder vs. much better competition. The difference is Days (outside of putbacks) relies on good ball movement to get him a shot (not something LSU excels at) while Mitchell is more apt to create his own.

I'll say it until I am blue in the face, but this team DESPARATELY needs guys who can defend and rebound. Mitchell isn't a great defender (just like Watford wasn't). While Days isn't either, he was a monster on the glass. Days had a better rebounding rate against MUCH tougher competition. Plus, he doesn't have to acclimate to Wade's system. In fact, with a little more opportunity he could flourish. If LSU had not have signed Reid I'd say that Mitchell was probably a bigger priority. But LSU has gotten some size (Reid) and toughness/athleticism inside (Eason). Having a guy who can stretch you from 3 (Days shot 40% to Mitchell's 38% on nearly 3 times as many attempts) can be a big help.

Mitchell is a good player. But given the choice of THIS LSU team I would take Days over him.

I agree with that. I think we have enough guys who can create their own shot, so having a great 3 point shooter is more valuable than having another guy who is going to be pretty ball dominant. Days playing next to a 7 footer with only elevate him as well. Outside of Days and wheeler (who decides today) the player I want to see them go after is Marcus Bagley from ASU. He’s another pure shooter who is 6’8 and can switch defensively. He and days would give us more spacing than we’ve ever gotten and our roster would look similar to what bama had last year.

LSU is (by my count) current at 13 players. So even if Days would return they would still have to find a spot for him (that leads me to believe Days has already told Wade he's not considering coming back). Wheeler is a similar player to Tremont, but all signs seem to be pointing to Kentucky for him. Pinson and Miller aren't leaving starting roles to come off the bench at LSU. I doubt Wheeler wants to do the same. So if he did sign with LSU you would assume it is because Wade "promised" all three they would start. Point being, I think LSU is done with their roster barring something unexpected.

Personally, I don't think he's made up his mind. The deadline to withdraw from the draft isn't in until July 19 and most of the predraft stuff happens in June and July.

If he had decided he definitely was going pro, he'd probably go ahead and hire an agent to start getting a little money and have someone to help him get drafted, or start lining up stuff in Europe.

Plus we still have Days if he wants back in, and don’t have to sit on pens and needles waiting for a portals decision

I feel like they might have enough with eason and wilkinson. Mitchell would be your primary offense.

He isnt coming to LSU. Way too much baggage w/the soon to be step-dad looking for a coaching job as a package deal.

Jeff Goodman alluded to the fact that LSU, Florida St and Texas were out of the running because they wouldn't move to clear a spot for the mom's b/f. So that leaves Georgia as the perceived front-runner.

Yikes, I wouldnt wish Crean and next year's UGA team on any good transfer like Tre Mitchell. They lost literally everyone and from bad team too last year too.

Crean has one of his three assistant coaching positions open right now. So it would be a bench job, not a director or analyst position.

ETA - all that being said, college hoops recruiting is the biggest 3 ring circus there is. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

Would love to have Tre but in some cases, unfortunately, like this one you got to deal with degenerates. It's either the mom or in this case stepdad that's part of the recruitment.

I know that you can't hire an incoming freshman's family member (maybe HS coach) to some BS position in the department just to land a recruit. You have to hire them as one of the 3 assistants. I don't know if that is the same for a transfer.

Either way, it is very clear Mitchell's former HS coach/soon to be step-father is looking to piggy back on the transfer for a job. There is nothing to suggest Wade is looking to replace one or more of his current assistants, and I doubt he would do so simply to get the services of a good, but by no means transcendent player, for what would likely be only one year. Mitchell would be a perfect Watford replacement. But LSU has seemingly addressed some of their frontcourt holes by signing Eason (similar game as E. Williams) and Reid (a talented post scorer).

Unless something unexpected happens, including Days having a change of heart and asking to remain for his senior season, I think LSU is done with their roster for next season.
