Assuming for the sake of discussion this is accurate, then I would imagine any thought of "coming back" would be predicated upon knowledge that LSU is not retaining Pelini. Clearly no one ever bought into his defense this year. Was THAT the reason some of these guys left? Maybe.

However, I get the hesitancy to take back, essentially, quitters. These guys bailed on their teams when things didn't look great...what's to say they wouldn't do it again. Hard to sell "one heartbeat" if you are eagerly willing to accept guys who didn't live up to that mantra.

Then again, O is probably back in a bit of "desperation" mode knowing he MUST get better on defense again and he's probably willing to bend his rules to take back talented players.

We'll see...

I think you've got this twisted. I'm pretty sure the coaches wanted him at outside linebacker and we wanted to play safety.

Yeah he wants to be a safety but couldn’t get on the field here at that position. When he finally relented and agreed to play another position he got on the field.

They both left. Why welcome them back?
Because they're really good football players who actually want to be here. If we need an initial counter spot for Brooks, then maybe we don't bring him back, or tell him he'll have walk on, but Ika definitely won't cost us a spot and our scholarship numbers could be downright frightening in a few weeks.

It's not like these are kids who got into trouble with the law or anything. They're young guys who didn't handle this year as well as they should have.

You wouldn't take Gilbert back, either?

Also, the term "opt out" seems to be thrown around awfully loosely, if you read the rumors about why some guys are leaving. I don't think we really know the true reasons for some of these departures, so it's kind of hard for me to be overly judgmental.

As has been pointed out, Brooks left in the summer when we were undefeated and ranked 6th in the country.

Is Orgeron still trying to sell this? Seems to me, he shelved this mantra for the year.

Well clearly Apu didn't because he left the team because of playing time. Marcel appears to have some Brandon Marshall issues is the rumor?

He doesn't want to be at LSU. It's like this trial separation .

I meant, if they come back, it would indicate they really want to be here. Brooks is gone and Ika has a foot out the door. It would be easy for them to stay/go elsewhere at this point.

I gotcha I wish Apu wouldn't have left . He is a space eater but he was playing well. Marcel was good for the QB pressure even though he didn't want to play LB.

I heard something interesting about this from a family member yesterday. The SEC does not have to allow the one-time transfer waiver. I’m not sure if that’s just within conference, as I don’t know how they could stop it with moves between conferences.

Anyway, they haven’t made a decision on whether they will yet and may not until early nest year. If they don’t allow it, then there is a chance that Gilbert returns rather than sitting out a year, especially if we change things up on the offensive side. This move by the conference will at least factor into his decision.

If the SEC accepts the waiver rule, he’s probably 99% gone.

Very interesting. Maybe he will get over the "home sickness" if that's indeed what it actually is. There's so many rumors going on about him.

Has it been confirmed Gilbert has no desire to return?

IKA didn't really fit our system for a 4-3, so I can understand him leaving. Brooks though, bailed for I don't know why. He couldn't even contribute for TCU. Not sure I want him back with the way he bailed on the team. Ika's situation is more understandable...not Brooks. We don't need quitters on this team that's the problem with the culture now in the locker room.

Marcel was a beast freshman year. Bring him back-competition and depth is a good thing

Is there any merit to this thread? Is there really a possibility of these two returning?

TexasTiger7 said he wouldn't get into any details, but that the smoke about Brooks is legit.

For those who don't know TT7 and Brooks are friends. They graduated HS together and both came to LSU.
