didn’t they just take part the college football playoffs with a freshmen QB?
They used to win half the national championships. They have one a single championship in the last six years and that came in the pandemic year when two-thirds of the country didn't play enough football to be taken seriously. THAT is a fall!

If you look at UGAs classes, they actually don't rely on GA talent as much as you'd believe. Surprisingly low amount of kids from GA considering it has surpassed CA as a big 3 state. And somehow Saban still managed top 2-3 classes. Seems we are the only fools hung up on recruiting our footprint at the expense of talent.
Coaching attrition/bad hires are as big a culprit as anything to their perceived downfall. Must be surreal when your success is only judged by the extraordinary amount of it you've had over the years. Even Saban can't chase down his own ghost.

What about 5/5?
Alabama got 5 star CB Tony Brown, who in 4 seasons had 56 tackles and 3 int. He went undrafted in the 2018 NFL draft, while LSU landed Leonard Fournette and Jamal Adams, who were both 1st round picks.

Yeah Law is going to be a really solid player for them but rest of list is spot on.

Saban's recruiting in Louisiana has often been overblown here.
Here is the breakdown Bama recruits from the Louisiana top 20 players since 2007 based on 247 rankings of Louisiana players.
2007 - 1 - #5 Luther Davis
2008 - 1 - #8 Robby Green
2009 - 3 - #6 Eddy Lacy, #10 Darrington Sentimore, And #11 Kenny Bell
2010 - 0 -
2011 - 1 - #6 Bradley Sylve
2012 - 2 - #1 Landon Collins and #3 Denzel Devall
2013 - 2 - #3 Tim Williams and #15 Raheem Falkins
2014 - 4 - #2 Cam Robinson, #6 Hootie Jones, #9 Cam Sims, and #18 O. J. Smith
2015 - 1 - #4 Daylon Charlot
2016 - 1 - #5 Shyhiem Carter
2017 - 3 - #2 DeVonta Smith, #4 Phidarian Mathis, and #5 Christopher Allen
2018 - 2 - #15 Eddie Smit and #18 Slade Bolden
2019 - 2 - #3 Christian Harris and #4 Ishmael Sophser
2020 - 1 - #19 Kyle Edwards
2021 - 1 - #7 Kane Williams
2022 - 4 - #1 Aaoron Anderson*, #5 Shazz Preston, #8 Kendrick Law, #15 Walter Bob
2023 - 1 - #5 Eli Holstein

Overall - 30 in 18 seasons, that’s less than 1.67 per season.
Miles - 16 in 10 seasons, that’s 1.6 per season
Orgeron - 9 in 5 seasons, that is 1.8 per season
Kelly - 5 in 3 seasons, 4 in the first, 1 in the two seasons since. That is an average of 1.67 per season
14 top 5 in 18 seasons
23 top 10 in 18 seasons

Our recruiting is about to make a big transition from Bama being the primary competitor to Texas and somewhat A&M going head to head. It’s already started really. UT has money and momentum and shared recruiting grounds.

Thanks, I always manage to goof up at lest 1

Saban tried hard to get Brian Thomas JR

Updated with recent portal entries. By my calculations, Christian Harris is the only contributor at Alabama from Louisiana in the last 8 signing classes.

Nick would always steal a couple of 5 star OL or WR

Not trying to throw shade on LA kids, but it seems in recent years that most of the truly successful in college players that were highly rated HS players attended LSU. There are exceptions like the Etiennes and Manning and some late bloomers not highly rated out of HS. Many of the kids that chose to leave LA for college are hitting the portal or not getting PT. Is this a fair assessment?

If you look around the country, LSU signs a higher percentage of the top prospects from in-state than anyone else most years.

Has Louisiana been down a bit the past few years?
2022 is a mess but it looks like Campbell, Moss, Jones, and Sampson are the clear best players from that class. Anderson is good too and he is there. Matthews spent a year in the portal.
2023: Arch is a backup. Heard is fine. Williams is hurt, Hordan Matthews is in the portal. Sampson has done nothing Holstein is good but at Pitt and in the portal again.

"Always" and "a couple" are erroneous.

pretty sure you meant Luther Davis. Turner is a FLA kid class of 2021
Davis verbally committed to LSU during the 2007 UA All-American game. He was 100% committed to Les and grew up wanting to play for LSU. Saban got hired at ALA and started calling him. Saban even visited with Davis (and Will Blackwell) in West Monroe. Davis then took a visit to ALA and never told Les. When Les found out he rescinded Davis' offer, and on NSD Davis flipped and signed with ALA. Blackwell remained loyal to LSU and never fell for Saban's pitch.
By 2009, Davis was in Saban's doghouse for "personal reasons" and he had fathered 3 children. Davis went undrafted and he never lived up to his recruiting hype.
On a separate matter, Davis was implicated by Yahoo sports funneling money to DJ Fluker and several other SEC players. Email and financial documents proved this but NOTHING ever happened.
