I don't understand where everything thinks we will get all these scholarships from

85-17+26+13=107 scholarships out.

Serious Question: will we start to see schools that have the finances for big NIL $$$ have players on the roster who are NOT on scholarship, but are paying their own tuition out of their NIL pay?

Starting to do some back of the napkin math, I see room for only about 5-6 portal guys. Would imagine we go 2-3 DB's, 1-2 WR, 1 Backup QB, 0-1 DT, 0-1 linebacker. Some of our backups are going to have to be politely told their services aren't going to be needed. I'm looking at the OL, WR and DB rooms.

0-1 DT.

bullshite. If Wingo leaves we will be hurting. I say at least 2-3 DT. 2 corners 1 qb, 1 stud receiver

I'm projecting Wingo/Smith back, thus 0-1. If Wingo or Smith leaves I would say 1-2. If both, 2-3.

In your calculations, how many declare for the draft and how many more to the portal?

1. There are already rules to prevent this. The player has to be a true walk-on, which means he can't be a recruited player. Can't have taken official visits, hosted coaches in-home, etc. There's other rules also.

2. No elite player would go this route, so what type of player are you expecting that is going to be player 86-95?

3. A roster limit of 85 is already too many players. The schools can't keep the players happy with playing time as it is.

I could see 9-10 more to the portal and 5-6 to the draft.

eta. Diggs, Nabers, Thomas, 1 of Frazier/Dellinger, 1 of Smith/Wingo/Guillory to the draft

Won't try to name players, but pick out of the following groups for the 9-10: WR, OL, DL, Safety, Corner (ok I will name - Chesnut and/or Harris).

Thanks for answering the question, I was just curious as to what your (and others) opinion(s) is/are.

Due to a prior NCAA rule change, the Harris to portal assumption is conditional on Harris. Once a school accepts a transfer the school is on the hook until either the player's eligibility expires, or the player declares early for the draft, or the player is a graduate transfer or the player opts for the portal & sits out a year. The school cannot force out a player who has previously transferred into the program.

Harris does not meet any of the first three criteria, so it is solely up to him if he wants to transfer and sit or drop to a lower classification or go JUCO. Chestnut is trying to get his degree in order to be a grad transfer so he does not need to sit a year.

I think we will see more declarations to the draft than 5-6 and some will be head-scratchers. I also do not see 9 or 10 more to the portal.

After the first 5 went into the portal, I made a list of 6 that are prime portal candidates not including Harris or Chestnut. Two of the six (Martinez and Wiggins) have since entered the portal.

My list of potential draft entries numbers 13 including the two obvious players with some players more probable to enter than others. 2 are definitely going and I think 7 others are highly likely to declare with 4 maybes.

Jefferson committed to SMU on 12/11 according to on3’s portal tracker.

eta: Randon Fontenette committed to Vanderbilt on 12/7 and can be removed as well.

What about Lance Dixon from WV as a one year piece at safety? Projected as a first round selection. I know we want players with multiple years of eligibility, but why not fill the gap with NFL talent and use 2024 for development for 2025.

Do Red Shirts count against the 85? I'm certain that Grey Shirts do not.

Someone will eventually find a way around this. Imagine 25 more 3 stars to add depth. For instance maybe the HC tells a booster "He would be a good depth piece but I can't recruit him." Maybe that's the signal to go get him a 5-10k NIL deal instead of picking a second tier school. Just a though but I think schools will eventually figure that out.
