Don't think it was a 'swap' per se. Tolan left - period. Got Speights to replace him. One wanted to leave. One wanted to come here. Better off with the one that wants to be here.

LSU didn't swap Tolan for Speights.

CBK praised Tolan. LSU would have been better if he would have stayed. However, Tolan wanted to go to Auburn.

I'm glad that we got Speights. He looks like a dam good LB.

The team is stronger with Speights than with Tolan.
Forget the “swap” terminology.

I don't think so, we needed a top end ILB regardless of tolan. This staff isn't messing around, they want a championship and wern't going to risk the most important position on the defense to someone that hasn't played any significant snaps if they can help it.

On paper. We won't know until the season is over and those 2 years Tolan has after make this maybe a net loss at the end of the day. But we had no choice in the matter so you take the best option you feel can help

Just a figure of speech - I get it.
Speights is the better player right now and CBK and his Tigers are hunting a Natty right now.

"Forget the “swap” terminology." Exactly.

Tolan = Solid potential long term player
Speights = Instant Impact guy, one elite year

Tolan will end up the better player most likely but Speights will be better this year. 6th year seniors are tough to beat they have so much experience. Unfortunately if he comes I bet we lose one of both of Martinez and Turner. Both guys proved they are capable of being power 5 starters in 2022.

Did you maybe confuse speight for Jakai Clark? The center?

Problem is that there is no long term anymore. If Tolan's good, he's off to the NFL in 2 years. In that case we get a solid year out of Speights, and we are looking or grooming a guy for the next year. Auburn wins the battle at that point, but at what NIL price?

If he is average, which most are, LSU gets a great player for one year, and Auburn gets average for 2-3 years. That's an LSU win all the way, as Auburn has then committed high NIL to an average player for 3 years.

Hard to say whether the BK hype was real, or whether he was just trying to keep a player on the fence from bolting.

For this year it was an elite trade off. Think of it as a bad team trading their star for guys with potential to a team trying to make a run
