With Cooley returning, here is our current secondary.

CBs:
DJ Pickett
PJ Woodland
Ja'Keem Jackson
Michael Turner
Aidan Anding

Safeties:
Da'Shawn Spears
Tamarcus Cooley
Jhase Thomas
CJ Jimcoily
Jacob Bradford

Time to supplement these guys with some portal additions. I have my eye on Rutgers CB Bo Mascoe.

Portal wise for defense I would add 1 CB that proven. 1 LB opppsite of weeks, no offense to keys but we need someone to complement him better unless singleton can do that. And 2 EDGE and 1-2 IDL.

Hopefully LSU gets some LBs in the portal.

I was surprised they didn't do so last season. Whit was really good, but there were no other real playmakers besides him. Perkins is more of a safety. West is just an average player. Keys is limited. I think it was a little hubris on Baker's part that he didn't think he needed to add to "his guys" at LB. I think he has to now.

Keep an eye out for a push for Chaz Coleman to fill that EDGE spot. I agree, EDGE is our biggest need for next year (on defense, obviously) followed by an OLB.

I am a big fan of Charles Ross, I think he steps into a bigger role next season at OLB.

We haven’t had a dominant DE in what feels like forever.

I agree I would like another proven LBer but at some point you gotta give your talent PT. Atkins could have stayed and been amazing but we were so sure West was that guy, but he was so mediocre. Keys has some physical limitations but also showed flashes of being a tackling machine. Singleton just looks very rigid to me, maybe I’m wrong. But Braker and Ross should see there is an opening. They have so much raw talent would be huge for one of them to step up

Agreed, Jackson did not impress much.

And Michael Turner hasn’t really touched the field. And needs to put on 20-30 pounds

I think we needs a safety and a CB for depth. I don't feel like you have to look for a starter at either of those positions.

I’d like to go after 1 elite proven corner in portal. Have him opposite of Pickett and have Woodland in the slot.

Jackson didn’t need to impress much. We were pretty solid at CB. There was no need to rotate another guy in (even though it was Jackson who was like your CB4). We had great things. People not playing because we had great things shouldn’t be a negative. Jackson was a great portal get last year.

Edge, edge, edge...if they don't have time back end doesn't matter as much

Mini Weeks is going to play a ton next year and could be a candidate as all indications are he is the highest potential Weeks.

Wouldn't mind getting the starting safety in the portal from Missouri, I would imagine he has some history with Baker.

Your CB is Pickett and Woodland. No CB1 is coming to LSU to sit behind them. LSU didn't re-sign both those with big deals with the intent to replace them with someone better or as good. They're your starters

I’m keeping an eye on Jimcoily (sp?) to get a nod to LB. Maybe even the star position. He has the size.

This is not a “boom” like some might think.

Cooley was by far our lowest graded coverage DB, lowest graded tackling DB, and lowest graded overall DB.

Outside of West Weeks & Devon Keys, Cooley was the lowest graded defender this season among starters, and Keys was thrust into a starting roll prematurely due to Whit’s injury.

For context:
PFF total defensive grades

Delane - 90.7
Haulcy - 87.7
Pickett - 79.7
Cooley - 60.1

No offense, we need LB that can take Weeks spot, he has yet to finish a season healthy and with Landry on campus full time, he definitely won't play the entire season.

Cooley was pretty solid, but wasn’t great.

If it were me, this is the minimum that I would bring in…

2 DE
2 DT
1 LB
2 Corners
2 Safeties
