Some optimism with Burch

Say what you want about DD.com, but Scott does have legit sources and is usually cautious about running with unsubstantiated rumors. He's often a day or two behind what we hear on here because he actually uses journalistic principles and works to verify the information he's hearing before running with it.

Anyway, I don't go to the site too much anymore, but I was bored today and saw this little nugget about Burch.

quote:

I said a few days ago that I felt like LSU’s chances were 50/50 with Burch and fellow DL McKinley Jackson, but now I would put Burch’s chances a bit higher.

LINK

His update today is pretty good. Give it a read. There's an update on the coaching search as well.

is it because he's dropping his chances with jackson?

Nobody is wrong if their guess is 50/50 or a little bit higher.

The question is, why, after Burch's visit to SC, which supposedly (according to this site) should have lowered our chances with Burch, does Scott feel BETTER about our chances? I don't think he's normally blindly optimistic when it comes to recruiting info.

Haha. Good point. I did think 50/50 for Jackson was high.

I'm not sure anyone really knows for sure. If you read the USCe Board, they are as confident as can be that he'll sign with them on Wednesday. If you listen to our insiders, they seem to think our coaches have received positive cues from Burch that he's interested in coming to LSU. I think he's torn and had to make a rushed decision the first time and chose the safe option. Maybe he'll chose LSU this time, but it depends on where his ceremony is? If it's at his school in South Carolina, I doubt he goes against the home town team...but only time will tell.

It is at Hammond, 10 minutes from Williams Brice Stadium. Muschamp will be there and is allowed since his son is also signing. It won't be open to the public bc Hammond is like a damn fortress and they wont let the general public in. One of the most exclusive private schools in the state. It is a well known feeder school to the Gamecocks and gives out a very limited # of scholarships each yr. Jordan just happens to be one.

ETA: Just to clarify, Muschamp's son is signing with Colorado State at the ceremony. We did not offer him.

None of what you're saying is wrong, but it seems like our side was feeling less confident after his SC visit, so it's really odd to me that someone from our side would have gained confidence.

I wasn't suggesting he's plugged in with someone in Burch's camp. I'm sure any info that led him to raise his confidence was from LSU's side.

It's true. Looking back on everything since Burch was given the scholarship it seems Carolina has been positioning themselves with Burch for quite some time. Pretty genius, actually. Didn't think we had that kind of foresight in us tbh.

Didn’t he already have a ceremony to commit South Carolina? Why have another one?

He did have a commitment ceremony but he and his teammates who will be playing at the collegiate level want to all sign together. None of their commits to any program have signed yet.

ETA: Pure conjecture here but Jackson Muschamp had not decided where to commit to until he and Coach Muschamp went to his OV with Colorado State the same weekend Jordan went to see y'all. Idk if they decided collectively to wait until all of them had made their decisions so they could all sign together or if the plan had been to sign on the 5th all along. As y'all know, Burch's best friend Boogie Huntley will be signing with us in that same signing ceremony. Another of Burch's buddies who wanted to play for the Gamecocks and with Burch and Huntley but who hadn't been offered received and accepted a PWO opportunity a couple of weeks ago and will also be signing with us in that ceremony.

The ceremony in December was a televised announcement. The one on Wednesday is a private ceremony for the school, where all of the kids who are going to play college ball sign their papers in front of the school. Everything I read said "private", so I assume this means no media.

Im with you but if I were to guess, it's likely our staff spoke with Burch and his camp post USCe visit and got positive vibes. Just a guess though
