We were such an academic giant when I was there we had no sports. Did play Intramural BB and SB with the Belle brothers. Albert"Dont call me Joey" Belle not half bad BB player too. Albert Sr coached me in H.S at Airline. Used to shag balls(T Ball) for Joey and Terry after 2 a day practices in FB.

Say Zach, this is straight-up hijack now, but did you see they're cutting the majors at our alma mater in half?

Wade Phillips, what year was that? I remember the event, but not the year.

2003 I think.
Wade,
Yeah, I think you're right. I believe 2003 was the 50 year anniversary of Springhill's football championship. I was there also to watch the Homecoming festivities.

Oh, so you were on the LSU team that won the NC? Congrats. What position did you play?

I emailed him about that being a stupid idea. He didn't respond. Re-cycling does not actually happen. It's like global warming. It's a feel good scam.

Played FB with them at NLU. MH was Terry Bradshaw with better arm. Next to JDCrow and maybe John Stephens best athlete ever from Springhill.

Yes. Several thoughts:
a. Church careers is not a tradition at CC. It started in 1973 and was very unpopular with many of us who saw it as a way to give scholarships to stupid people.
b. CC spent too much money upgrading buildings instead of investing in students and faculty. When I took English Lit in Jackson Hall it was 100 years old but it had a good teacher with a black board and a piece of chalk.
c. The fitness center... Old Haynes Gym ..is very nice, but it should not have been a priority. When I went to CC there was no gym for students and athletes had one universal machine with no free weights.
It's still a beautiful campus but they have to get their priorities straight.

I was talking about the guy that you "said" turned down a scholarship to LSU.

Being from Shreveport the two big reasons that there aren't that many big time recruits is that.
1. The talent is spread out and the schools aren't given the $ for weights. Though it has gotten better.
If there were three schools each would have more kids and more $.
2. The middle schools don't feed into the High Schools. Kids are coming in from all over b/c of Magnet schools. Kids are then forced to play out of position do to need or lost in the shuffle.

Yeah too many high schools for a city the size of shreveport. But we have a legacy and certain schools will not be closed to bus children to the other side of the city.

Magnet programs, best and worst thing to happen to the schools of Shreveport.
