Actually, that's not true. Over the past 20 years Byrd averages one every 3 years. Shreve averages one every 5 years. Magnet averages 12 per year.

Not sure about that. For 06'-07' for example Byrd had 3, Shreve 1, and Magnet 11. Magnet obviously has a lot of these kids, but there are plenty of achievers from both Byrd and Shreve. Byrd probably has the most prominent alumni set in the area also.

Rest of the state would benefit from these types of magnet programs. Now back to FB. Any other S'port/Bossier talent past present or future that will or has made impact on LSU? 30 mile radius. No Ruston or Monroe

I believe that there was a former heisman trophy winner from Haynesville if someone already didn't name him. John David Crow. Went to Texas AtM.

John David Crow went to Springhill. He was on a state championship team in 1952.

He detailed his recruiting in a book written about him by Dan Jenkins about "Texas" Legends. They didn't have a nat'l signing day back then. He signed an SEC letter with LSU and a Big 8 letter with OU. Bear Bryant was new to A&M. He had his SWC letter flown into Shreveport to beat all of the other SWC team reps to him since LOI's couldn't leave campus until 8 A.M on signing day and SMU, TCU, etc. were closer to Springhill. According to the book; at the time it was unheard of to fly in the LOIs and the other SWC programs were astonished. Crow said of Bryant regarding the first time he met him that he looked like he was "capable of kicking any other man's arse".

JD Crow came back to give us a graduation speech a few years ago and tripped walking on stage and busted his arse. It was hard not to laugh.

ETA: homecoming not graduation

Byrd's 3 in 07 is extremely unusual. Magnet has had as many as 18 in one year.
Byrd has a great alumni because it was the elite school in Shreveport from 1925 until 1970. When you look at the street names in Shreveport many are graduates of Byrd.

But it's been a very average school for 30 years. No better academically than Parkway, Benton or Airline. A tad better than Shreve. Worse than Loyola and miles below Caddo Magnet.

Shreveport has a large medical community with LSU and WK. Many are Asians. They send their kids to Magnet. They don't care about sports.

BTW, Mayor Glover is a grad of Magnet. I don't think he's gay and I'm pretty sure he's not a Gothic.

Many prominent families send their kids to Byrd, Shreve, Magnet, or Loyola. FWIW the reviews on Loyola aren't that great. Magnet also has a huge drug culture and this is fairly well known. Each school has it's share of top flight kids. Byrd and Shreve still attract lots of good students post 1970. Back to topic though only a handful of big profile players seem to have come from Shreveport schools in the last few years save for Evangel.

Wow, don't you feel just a little bit like a total pussy for whining about a thread you don't have to read? I mean, just a bit?

Yes, but not in equal proportions. In fact, the trend is toward Bossier Parish.

Hell of a lot better than Byrd or Shreve.

This has long been a lie perpetrated by parents who couldn't get their kids into Magnet.

Nope, not nearly equal.

You must not know some of the recent Magnet graduates over the last couple of decades. It's a good school for those with no desire to have any kind of athletic ambitions, but plenty of successful kids come out of Byrd, Shreve, and Loyola. Maybe Magnet has more top tier students, but it's a bit elitist and misinformed to say that the other mentioned schools don't produce talent.

I enjoy reading the recruiting material on the recruiting board especially the old timers stories.... Not so much what you think about shreve/bossier high schools. Unfortunately you brought that shite into this thread. Leading to my comment. On that note, please feel free to GFY.

Dude, we get it. You have a hardon the size of the Statue of Liberty for Caddo Magnet. And I'm sure Caddo Magnet is a great school. Still, you have the ability to make someone who knows nothing about Caddo Magnet hate Caddo Magnet based upon just you alone.

Why don't you and Caddo Magnet get a motel room where you can spend all the time you want with Caddo Magnet.

Frick.

Well hell yes. That's the whole point. Smart kids don't want to be around your kids. What do you not understand about that?

It's just a bit misinformed. There's a lot of prominent people who would take offense to that statement. Magnet has quite a few drugged out kids, which is not a lie. That's enough of the Magnet agenda. You must teach there or have some reason to downplay other successful schools, but that's not really important to me.

I live here. When some idiot says "Byrd Rules" I know they are wrong. I know waaay more about Byrd than Caddo Magnet. I've been down in the dungeon at Byrd below the old swimming pool. I've interviewed people who graduated in Byrd's first class of 1926.

This thread is about Shreveport and I know a lot about the history of the town. If you're not interested, don't click on the thread. If you want to whine to adm and get it whacked, knock yourself out.

Everyone who lives in shreveport knows Magnet is where you go for a quality education. That is not even a discussion. I was invited to tour the school and check out their programs, which was quite impressive being the only school to offer chinese at the time. The determining factor for me was magnet did not offer sports. I don't count soccer and tennis. I toured byrd, didn't like that visit at all. Then I went to shreve and the rest is history. WHAT'S THE WORD,,,,BEAT BYRD!!!!!
