People need to look no further than our baseball team to understand why acquiring elite top level talent is mission critical. What does LSU football want to be? Georgia and Alabama are where they are because they married structure with elite recruiting, it isn't rocket science.

Exactly thats where im coming from by saying this class lacks elite talent. Is it fine? sure, but its not even in the same ballpark as the bama and georgia classes.

Well probablys not since their instate classes are significantly stronger than Louisiana’s this year

Even if their instate classes were weak they would go out and pull the 5 stars from around the nation. Bama has had what? 10 #1 classes in the past 12 years. are you saying their state was pumping out crazing amounts of 5 stars to get them there?

I think the bottom line here is that, whether people like to admit it or not, we aren't Bama and UGA...YET. Kelly is just in his 2nd year here, and he will need a couple years building solid classes, which he is well on his way to doing, before he can just start plucking top talent he wants from out of state.

He has gotten some but right now the focus is mainly on building culture and depth, and he seems to be doing a great job with that. The current class prediction is not bad at all (plus will likely improve) and he will build on that and last year's foundation.

I think you're setting your sights too high if you expect Kelly to be able to compete with UGA and Bama for every top recruit in the nation at this time.

Kirby’s classes started piling up after year two, that’s what we should expect from Kelly. I trust he’ll fill gaps where needed but will he ever compete with the bama/uga classes? We’ll see.

I hear people talk about 5 star players. Let’s see, after this season, two players that were 4 star players, Emery Jones and Will Campbell. Both started on the OL in the SEC, as true Freshmen. Do you think those two should have been 5 star players out of high school? What about Mason Taylor, a 3 star player?

I would trust the staff with their player evaluations and player development.

I’ve been knowing a number of paid scouts, recruiting experts over the years.

It’s fun to see stars and rankings, but there are a bunch of misses.

Texas has made it clear they aren't going to let Simmons leave the state

Well it’s a good thing for us that Texas isn’t the ones that ultimately make that decision.

And as far as I’m concerned, UT, Sark, Del Conte and their big money boosters can go shove it all where the sun don’t shine.

We have that. We are consistently top 5 in recruiting. That’s elite level.

They both have 2 current 5* commits based on the 20 in the ON3 industry thing. Guarantee both would land at least 1 a piece of the remaining 16. We haven't gotten to 32(the end number) yet. They recruit and evaluate better than everyone else and it's clear. And have trophies to back that up. There may be some bias involved as the year goes but results say both are pretty damn good at evaluating and getting those at the tops of their respective boards. Nationwide with no limits to where they go and who they have to beat to land those kids. We yearn to be there but don't have to.

Ok. We have the exact same thing going for us now that we have an adult in charge again. For the first time in a long time I am not worried about our football program at all. Baseball seems to be doing just as well. Women’s basketball will win a championship in within the next 3 years. Really the only sport we are currently shitting the bed in is mens basketball and I’d bet that will be fixed before too long.

Doesn't have to be. keep getting classes ranked 4-6 and hit on OL, QB, and DL and you can win multiple NC

that class has 7 top 100 guys and 11 top 150
I'd also put money on some our commits moving up ala Whit Weeks and Dashaun Womack. and I'd bet we get another 5* - either Simmons or someone like Kobe Black

Losing Colin Simmons to Texas and then having them come into the SEC would suck.

Ehhh… they’re still going to suck. That program can’t get its head out of its own arse.

Unless and until the boosters stop meddling in that program (never going to happen…), they’re going to continue to flounder. They ran off the only coach to win a national time in forever.

They’re basically Auburn, but with more money and behind closed doors dysfunction.

Lsu was never going to get simmons.

My question is, will lsu ever pony up under kelly to grab these elite of the elite 5 stars.

And i know they got perkins last year, but he supposedly took much less money to sign with lsu.

I think they will once the foundation is in place. Right now I think they are having to spread money too thin to get solid players and elite players. Once they can build some more depth at positions of need I could see them spending more money on the top tier guys. Just a guess by me though.

Eta: plus I think it's less of a worry getting some of these players to sign with you on signing day due to the portal. If a top guy goes to Bama or uga to compete for immediate playing time and then doesn't get it, they may look to the portal and we scoop them up there.

I don’t see them sucking for long if they are willing to throw top money for recruits. Talent can overcome coaching we should all know that.

The only problem I see with Kelly’s recruiting is not wanting to get into recruiting battles ($$) with the high end recruits will it eventually bite us? We see TAF is willing to spend money on recruits but it seems like Kelly is going in another direction with incentives through milestones.

I like what I’m seeing on the o line with last years class I just hope we can start building the interior with depth on the dline. I’m gonna give coach my support and optimism.

2022 class = Harold Perkins
2023 class = Dashawn Womack, Lance Heard

All are “elite of the elite” prospects (Top-15 nationally).

LSU is absolutely in the mix for Colin Simmons. Wouldn’t shock me if we win out for that kid…..
