So someone please enlighten me why Byrd would choose SMU over a P5 school? Is it just proximity to family or academics?

Duncanville is Smu territory. Both are in Dallas and also the fact one of the smu coaches used to be on the Duncanville staff. Can’t blame the kid for staying close to home. Wish him the best

I remember reading that his recruiter at SMU is the son of his current coach at Duncanville.
ETA: Looked it up and the Head Coach at Duncanville is Reginald Samples, his recruiter at SMU is Ra'Shaad Samples.

I have a good feeling about Leigh to LSU and thought Byrd was a heavy Oklahoma lean. But if they miss out on both, especially Byrd that will be hysterical

The last point is debatable. Lived in Dallas for a long time, and it seems like 90%+ of the student body is just SMUchebag dudes with popped collars spending dad's money. The female student body there is legit, but there's hardly any of them around compared to the fratbros all over the place. There's also zero campus vibe.
