Mack has changed a lot of his recruiting principles this year but I guess not that one yet. He's trying to catch up with the times but not there just yet

Texas backs off a 5 star that is taking visits to USC and Oregon? Where have I heard this before? If LSU starts cooling on him, it will be a carbon copy of the Seastrunk recruitment.

Ehh, I'm hesitant to throw around the street agent BS that always comes up (with many fan bases) when a recruit decides to go somewhere else (and the consensus appears to be just that on Texas sites) without some serious evidence in support. For all we know the kid just said he doesn't plan to go to Texas and everyone moves on.

They got to get him a QB that can get the ball to him first

Thanks OrangeBlood. I like Eric Nahlin a lot and you're right, he's usually very informed and on the ground with his stuff. Unfortunately that's the only Longhorn site that I cannot access at the moment(I'm working on it). I used to read the Q & A's over there but they don't put them on the free board anymore, if they still do them. I'm not a big fan of Shuttlesworth(too homer for me) but he's not big in the recruiting stuff anyway.
I agree with Duckie. There are some strange vibes in this recruitment. FTR, I've never shied away from the fact that I have no issues with shady recruitments and LSU's involvement but messing around in Texas these days is a dicey proposition. They'll rat on your arse. I'm not saying anything shady is happening but I can see where people are jumping to that conclusion. I've been very impressed so far(it's still early) with the Longhorn insiders and the fact that they haven't been pointing in that direction just yet. The aforementioned Inside Texas crew are the ones that I need to see though. They are usually the leaders of that train of thought.

Yeah, they moved the free Q & A to the pay board, and still do it there. Rankled many a feather when JS went from Recruitocosm to IT and people had to start paying for his stuff.
Reading over there now I don't think the staff is pointing to shady stuff as much as posters. But you know how they are. It's just hard for me to get worked up about this stuff.
I think the recent addition of Oregon and USC to his list of potential visits (after largely saying he wanted to stay in state or close like LSU) has raised some eyebrows, to say nothing of his participation in the AAU basketball stuff.

OrangeBloods.com (Rivals) was going along with it too:
Geoff Ketchum Geoff Ketchum ?@gkketch
Confirmed: 2 sources confirm that the Longhorns are backing off the recruitment of Ricky Seals-Jones
8:02 PM - 12 Sep 12 from Austin, TX
Inside the 40 Acres board
They have a thread on their board titled "The moral of the RSJ story? Mack doesn't like going to the circus"

I've only heard his show on Yahoo Radio a couple times, but he seems pretty terrible. It's tough to listen to.

Really? I have heard that from one fan base. Even on players that end up committing to them and suddenly those played are reformed and saw the error of their ways. Joke.

He's an insufferable douche. From my experience the level headed, normal Texas fans hate him.

I think oregon is a stretch since they don't have as much of the basketball angle. usc may be on probation for basketball (they had some issues) but they may be the NEW team to watch. eric dickerson is mom's first cousin and I think he lives out there.
just a little odd that the only 2 AWAY schools he is looking at are two schools with recent recruiting violation issues.

This is a good point. Hasn't Oregon's new basketball staff been doing okay, like NIT the first couple years? That's really not much different from what LSU or A&M has done recently. The basketball angle will definitely help Baylor and hurt USC, but for wanting to play basketball so badly he isn't really looking at the greatest basketball programs.

Also, Oregon always has the Nike treatment along with the new state-of-the-art facilities. He was up there for The Opening and while Oregon couldn't officially tour them around, they likely didn't stop them from doing it on their own

I was up in Corvallis a couple months ago and listening to sports radio that's all Oregon State fans wanted to talk about with respect to Oregon. I was surprised because I thought the whole Willie Lyles thing had died down. Went to the Texas-UCLA game last year and some UCLA fans I spoke with were talking about it with reference to USC - I didn't think UCLA cared that much. Maybe my choice of "many" should have been "couple."

i'm just a little suprised that a WR from texas would look at both oregon and usc and not visit oklahoma or okie state. oklahoma has had the best passing game in the country over the last 5+ years. okie state has produced the best wrs (1st round draft choices) in dez bryant and dexter blackmon
