Barton Simmons also said when he asked surtain where he would get immediate playing time he answered Alabama. That was part of the whole conversation but he also stated that Corey Raymond is a major reason why kids choose LSU over Alabama and that Surtain having ties to Louisiana helps as well.

That was before KT and Donte declared though. Now we have a boundary and nickel spot open. Shots at PT are even now.

Surtain is good enough to get to NFL, even if he went to somewhere like FIU. Both Bama and LSU would get him drafted.

This is a little off topic, but I wonder how many (if any) first rounders have ever only "started" in college their junior/senior year?

Someone like Tony Brown comes to mind (and I know he's not a first rounder - just an example).

I don't really know much about how NFL talent is evaluated so it's very possible that once a scout sees 20 snaps they've seen all they need to see.

I'm just wondering if Player X would get drafted higher had he been a rockstar at "FIU" for 3-4 years, versus not being able to seriously crack the rotation until his last year somewhere else, like Bama.

Yeah, not everyone may want to play for Saban. You have a school known for putting out the best at your position in LSU.

Neuheisel Isn’t that smart and he is openly hostile to LSU and the SEC in general. He’s said negative things about LSU for years. He thinks the west coast is Mecca for college football.

Just ran into him in hotel capstone here in Tuscaloosa. He has an entourage of Bama people with him. Said fraud tigers when I got off elevator and he gave a head nod. Could t see the socks though

Neuheisel should worry about landing himself a coaching job again rather than worrying about where kids should go to school. If he was as smart as he thinks he is, he damn sure would not have to rely on CBS to pay his bills.

If you want to win a NCAA title you go to Alabama because Saban has turned them into a machine in that regard like he would have done at LSU had he remained there. But LSU is a NFL factory and puts more players in the NFL than Alabama, and in the case of Surtain, playing DB at LSU is much more enticing than Alabama. So, Rick Neuheisel is just another misinformed geek that knows absolutely jack shite about the type of program that a LSU is when it comes to prepping players for the NFL.

The coaching at LSU hasn't lived up to the talent there, but if they ever get competitive coaching LSU would make Saban retire because he knows they're a sleeping giant.

Anyone else listen to this and get legitimately angry this question is actually being asked?

I didn't listen to FCRN (fired coach.....). I usually change the channel when he's on. Instead of getting mad at FCRN, I just laugh. As someone else said, he's a hack. Every time he says something that makes you mad, send an email to the radio station telling them what channel you changed to as a result of his statements.

Neuheisel openly questioned why any recruit would go to LSU over Bama especially one as good as Surtain

Maybe that’s why he’s unemployed. His job was to come up with creative reasons as to why one school was better than another and he can’t think of any reasons as to why LSU would be kind of a solid place for a DB to be?

Guy is clearly a fricking idiot who likes to run his mouth without knowing what he’s talking about or putting any thought to it. Not a very good trait to have if you want to be successful. Maybe he’d still be employed if he could dig deeper into that big ole brain and think up why an elite prospect would want to play at the same school as Peterson, Mathieu, Reid, Claiborne, White, Jones, Webster, etc.

Given the history LSU's D has been the REAL DEAL and their have only been a FEW TEAMS that have STOPPED BAMA from having their way with them and that team is LSU (not this year)

Shouldn't the REAL QUESTION have been "why would any 5* WR Recruit want to come to LSU??? My dad and I talked about this year in and year out "how does LSU get WR's to go there?"

The same reason Georgia Tech gets good WR’s to go there. People don’t look at the same situation the same way as you or I do. Different things appeal to different people. Why are there different flavors of ice cream.......?

move along, nothing to see here. Just the REC doing work as usual... paid public mouthpiece. They are quite inventive in their schemes and their resources seem endless, gotta give them credit there. We’ve fallen way behind on the shadow staff and “support” team.
