The SEC has been pushing for years for a 3rd paid assistant coach for non football sports, but small schools fight it.
Most of this push comes for baseball

I can understand why
I remember DD pushing for expanded head count scholarships for gymnastics but most seemed to be against it because it would just make the 'top' schools even more dominant than the rest of the field. All the elites would flock to basically the same 5/6 schools.
Maybe it happens some day. Not sure how the smaller programs would be able to deal with it given their budget limit

Even with the bad dismount choices, handstand positions and the half pirouettes on the low bar have been rough around the edges and I cannot remember that being a case with Jay here since the last two years. Maybe something needs to change with the training.
I don’t want to call out a name, but someone in the bars lineup is missing almost all their handstands, and that wasn’t the case last year. How does that regress? It’s a mystery on what has changed on bars. I know they are lacking some depth there, but there are 19 girls on the roster. Isn’t that part of coaching to bring along depth? I’ve always thought that Jay did a good job here in the past, so I wonder if your theory on something changing in practice is correct. I think OU has excellent bars coach, and same thing with Jenny on beam. Utah has also really started to excel on beam since their new assistant took over there. I’m praying that our beam squad can take that next step in year two under Gnat once her feet become a little more wet. Jay took a big risk bringing in someone with no experience for his second chance at being HC.

The bars lineup has been disappointing, though I would say beam has a been a bigger disappointment for me. I am trying to give gnat the benefit of the doubt for a couple of years, but it’s hard when I see that a lineup that is 2/3 seniors hasn’t improved (other than dean and potentially with some consistency desiderata) in the last year. Also haleigh got worse as the year went a long (though I know she is young and must feel immense pressure). Those appear to be coaching issues to me.
As for bars...well I think as everyone has said the issue has always been the dismounts (even for priessman who was a little whippy but not nearly as much as dunne or schennikova) I am interested in who you think is missing their handstands now who didn’t last year (the options being Johnson, schennikova, and durante). I haven’t particularly noticed the handstand issue throughout the season with any of those three (though I thought one of schennikova’s was short on Saturday, if I am remembering correctly)

I think the only senior who improved on beam was Dean. Desiderio is the same as before (not a knock on her, she was fine). Durante is still inconsistent. Campbell and Johnson struggled a lot this year due to injury.
Tbh, I thought going into this year that our beam was going to be great. We kept nearly all the lineup from last year and added Schennikova, Dunne, AND Bryant, all of who could have legitimately made the lineup. There should've been a ton of competition for spots.

I mean maybe the issues with Johnson and Campbell were unavoidable and due to their peak scores, the coaches thought it better to chance it with them even though they were hurt/couldn't do as many reps in practice. That's a choice, but would show some strategy at least. I still don't love Durante in it the whole year since I think giving arenas or dunne reps is more beneficial (both this year and in the future) and durante is just so streaky on it.
Though, as I have said before, love Dean this year - it shows that smart routine construction can really improve someone's consistency.

This is part of a post from Utah Gymnastics.
The latest
The Tigers finished second at the Salt Lake City Regional, behind Utah, but ahead of Arizona State and Kentucky. LSU actually finished in second place in both of its regional meets, losing to Kentucky in a regional semifinal as well. The Tigers have been hit and miss at times this season. When on, they’ve taken Florida to the brink and handled almost everyone the SEC had to offer. When off, they’ve fallen to Kentucky multiple times.
The history
Utah holds a commanding 33-7 edge in the series with LSU, but the Tigers had been the better team since 2017, winning all five matchups between the programs, that is until regionals this year. Utah’s victory was its first over LSU since 2012.
The challenge
Having already faced LSU and won, Utah knows exactly what the Tigers have to offer. When at their best, LSU can be a problem for any team. The Tigers have their weaknesses, though, and are beatable, as Utah has already shown.

Why is there chat about LSU and Utah head to head. What is the structure of the Elite Eight competition. Do the two teams from each region compete to advance to the Final Four? Or do they all compete in two sessions and the top four advance?
With respect to Utah, it should be noted they barely edged the Tigers while competing in the comfort of their home area where they were more accustomed to the altitude. In addition the superstars for LSU had falls which are not likely to be repeated.
Whatever the format if LSU is in peak form they can contend in a wide open final with no sure favorite.

I honestly find it a bit comedic that teams like Utah and the entire gymternet for that matter continue to underestimate the LSU Gymnastics Program and what the girls are capable of, even though/when the girls keep proving everyone wrong year after year after year. I did some quick math based on our scores this weekend and estimated that the girls left give or take 4 tenths out there in the floor based on what we know they are capable of, where as teams like OU, Utah, Florida, and Bama have pretty much tapped out completely on their teams scoring potential for the season. If we can hit 24/24 both nights, which I know they can do and still have yet to do, they’ll walk as national champions from Forth Worth, as long as every team is scored the way they should be all weekend long

Anyone know if the gymnasts are under orders to stay home for the next 2 weeks? If not are there guidelines for them? That is a long time for something to happen covid wise. I hate to see a temple or auburn happen.

I wouldn’t count on it. I noticed from IG that they all went out the Saturday before regionals and it made me so super nervous when I saw that. I hate to be that person, but after what happened to UGA, it was my first thought... and then we saw what happened to Auburn and Temple.

I saw this on College Gym Fans under the Web section. The article was evaluating the competition for Utah at the Championships. I thought their analysis was a little overboard considering that Kiya and Haleigh missed routines for them to come out ahead of us by two tenths. LSU has the potential to go head to head with any of the teams. I just hope the mental focus is present.
Two teams from each session will advance to Four on the Floor Saturday night.

I know it’s easy to get bent out of shape about the comments on the gymternet, but some of the comments are legit. LSU hasn’t been consistent all year. The only really good meet they had all year was versus Missouri. We all agreed that the meet vs. Florida was overscored. They did okay at SEC Championships. But we keep saying they haven’t peaked yet and they’ve yet to have a complete meet. Well when?!!!? They only have one more chance to “peak” or they’ll be going back home. The time is now. Oklahoma looks great now that Trautman is back fully healthy. Utah has been very consistent all year. They have the advantage on both bars and beam. And Bama has beaten LSU twice this year. We can’t ignore that. LSU is lucky to have gotten out of Regionals. Let’s just hope they bring it this one last time.

Speaking of gymternet comments, did y'all see on the college gymnastics FB group that people were asking Haleigh on her IG stories if she would consider switching schools? Apparently a lot of people were asking her that. WTH?
I do have to say that most people in the FB group thought it was wrong. I was surprised because they usually hate LSU.

I saw that. What would make people on IG even think to ask that question?! Though she handled it well.
Posted on 4/7/21 at 7:07 pm to Twz
I remember idiots asking Trinity that when Florida didn’t make Nationals as a team that one year. People are just crazy.
Posted on 4/7/21 at 7:09 pm to Twz
I saw that question and literally yelled WTF out loud. It’s evident from her photos with the girls, the way she speaks about them in captions and on her story, as well as how she reacts with them to her hit routines at meets that she LOVES LSU. Why would anyone ask her, or any gymnast for that matter if they would ever leave the school they’re at. That’s just wrong. If there was any evidence of her planning on leaving LSU, the entire gymternet would already know and be talking about it by now

I'm assuming it is some young kid based off the wording of the question. She answered it well and she has answered that question multiple times already
In recruiting news, LSU, UCLA, Arkansas, and Utah coaches all just started following Leah Smith on social media. Something appears to be up.
IF LSU were to get her, she would be very helpful for us on vault, bars and floor. Not exactly a beamer unfortunately. She does a DTY, imagine LSU having 2 of those and Bryant's front pike half in a lineup. She would definitely make our bars lineup.

Shocked this post got 6 upvotes. It could not be more off based

Curious as to why it is so off-based.
