It would take a miracle for us to advance, honestly.
This team will play up to their potential the next two meets and win the whole thing. I feel it in my bones.

Interesting I wonder if they stick with the bad landing cos her form is not great on the other parts of the routine so they are using difficulty to push her score up

What did he say??
He basically said that the girls took the theme of survive and advance literally this weekend and they fought like hell all the way to the end to make it happen and get through. He also said that there’s a few spots (didn’t say where but I think we can guess) that he’s planning on paying extra special attention to over the next couple weeks before nationals to clean them up and fine tune the girls but overall he’s pleased with the way they performed this weekend with girls stepping up when and where they needed to step up and when it mattered most. Then he thanked us for our support, noise and energy all weekend long and is confident that the girls will put it all together at nationals, something they still have yet to do this season

Change the bars dismounts, and LSU moves up those bars rankings for sure. Shania Adams has been scoring huge in post season with a double tuck dismount. Michigan’s lead off just scored a 9.95 with one last night. Cal is the number one ranked team in the country with half their lineup dismounting with the double tucks. I really hope Jay will make these changes after this season now that there is hard proof from this season that these dismounts are scoring just as high as the E level dismounts. He’s holding the athletes who struggle with this back, which holds the team’s true potential back.
Another thing I think must change is Olivia’s half pirouette on the low bar. It’s just little things here and there that if he makes these changes, the scoring potential sky rockets.
P.S. Let’s not do another press handstand in two weeks. She falters it every time at the start. Common sense... this is not worth the risk.

Yes. She just needs to do a stalder or giant 1/1 before the double tuck.
Not sure if she can still do a stalder but that would be a great option for Alyona and then she can do a double tuck after. Sara Ulias from UCLA does this and has been successful.

Ok. I asked this last night but I think it got lost in the shuffle and I wasn’t able to see the beam rotation night 1 - anyone know why they added the press handstand back (it had been in her freshman year routine with her different Acro series) - I generally love press handstand mounts but she did seem to slightly struggle on it last night, so I wonder what the thought process was there?

I have no answer for that honestly....
Didn't make sense to me either
While we are discussing beam still. I sorta want LSU to change the choreography of Alyona going down on the beam, she has actually 'slipped' on that part of it multiple times this year, plus it looks awkward.

Will LSU have all 10.0 start value vaults next season in the lineup? It’s going to be insanely competitive next year with so many talented teams, so that would be nice to have that edge.

We definitely should especially if Edwards comes back. I’m also counting on Ryan’s being in there. And hopefully one of the new girls have one. I wonder if there Is there any hope of Madi improving hers and getting it in the lineup.

They should be able to, Tatum already trains and does a 1.5 vault, Ryan does a 1.5 vault. Aleah should be able to transition from her harder elite vault to a 1.5. K. Johnson is a spectacular vaulter who is training a double now (her best event).
What I am interested to see is if they try to upgrade Elena or if they stick with the full.
Not sure what they do with Kai just yet coming off the achilles injury but LSU will have their pick of the liter next season when it comes to vaults. The backups might not even be a drop off either in many spots. Vault is set up beautifully over the next two years, with or without Edwards.

Beam will be the giant question mark next season with 4 starters, including our lead-off snd anchor, graduating.
Dunne would be a great lead-off. I have high hopes for Aleah and K. Johnson.
Kiya would have been a no-brainer as anchor but has shown tons of nerves this season.
Will be intriguing see how it all plays out next season.

Sami is most likely returning next year
Posted on 4/5/21 at 9:10 am to lsugymfann
Do y’all know if Kiya and Haleigh get to compete all around at nationals or did they have to qualify at regionals? Kiya had a good regional semifinals so she should be fine, but I was wondering more about Haleigh since she didn’t have a good meet. Do their regional scores matter at all? I have no idea how that works!

It doesn't look like Tatum has been competing vault and floor this season. I hope she has been able to keep her 1.5.
I completely forgot about Rau. Hopefully she can put in the work this offseason.
I can't wait to see Kai back. Two years in and we have yet to see her healthy, so I'm praying she stays healthy during the next two years.
Changing subject.. If Sami comes back, that leaves the bar lineup intact. I was really hoping to see Kiya move down the lineup though. This is truly another area where coaches have lost tenths by putting the best routine as a leadoff. Who would y'all like to see as a leadoff next year? They will definitely have more options. It appears that bars may be Tatum's strongest event right now, and you can't leave Aleah out of that lineup. Kai has a lot of potential on bars as well with different routine construction. I mean she can actually dismount a correct DLO for one.

Kiya IMO struggled a bit this year on beam due to lack of reps from her Achilles tenderness but LSU didn’t help her either given her routine construction
They need to water that routine down, I still don’t understand why we upgraded it. The switch half needs to go, she has fallen on it multiple times and has had some type of check most of the other meets. Not sure why we upgraded the front Ariel to the front toss. For a kid who is limited for how many reps she can do due to her chronic pains, it makes no sense why we are making it more challenging for her

I don't know how true this is but there is a rumor going around Leah Smith (2021 NL cup winner) might want to get out of her NLI.
Would be a giant development if true.

I don’t blame her given the head coach left and UW had a tough season. Any idea where she wants to go?

I heard this rumor a little bit ago but then She literally just started following all of LSUs coaches and some of the Florida coaches.

Any chance that LSU might get a new bar coach? I though Jay was great during the Finnegan years, but this year and last have been a disappointment. No development of existing routines and in fact some like Alyona and Kai have looked rougher on bars than during their club/elite careers. Is it normal for a head coach to also be coaching individual events?

Yes, a lot of head coaches have events they specialized in but they oversee everything still. Jenny Rowland is extremely hands on with their beam but their assistant coaches deal mostly with the other events.
LOL Jay is not letting go of bars, thats his event, he should do better with managing it though. I do agree that there doesn't seem to be a lot of polishing going on the last two years on bars. Even with the bad dismount choices, handstand positions and the half pirouettes on the low bar have been rough around the edges and I cannot remember that being a case with Jay here since the last two years. Maybe something needs to change with the training.
You only have 2 assistant coaches that are paid to coach full time, and we have probably the best vault coach in the country with Bob Moore. Then you have Gnat that deals with beam and helps with floor. They can't hire anyone else.
