We should get a first hand look at Utah/Farden's stellar recruiting class as they should be on our schedule for 2022.

I was just thinking about this the other day but we haven't gone after any international elites since Ruby. There were a couple from Canada and GBR that I would have loved to come here.

Utah (on paper) will be crazy good next year adding that stellar freshmen class.

Which ones did you have in mind? For the future I would love for us to get the Gadirova twins. They seem to match the energy of the team, though it may be a hard pull for us with both Grace and Amelie at Utah together. I know Canada Australia and GB seem to be the most common places to recruit international athletes from due to the language barrier, if there is no maximum age limit for an ncaa athlete to begin at a university, I would want Jay to try to recruit Rebeca Andrade of Brazil (she could help us out on the leg events especially vault and she speaks english), as well as the two younger Russians Vladislava Urazova and Viktoria Listunova who could help us especially on bars and beam. Yes there may be a little bit of a language barrier with the last two but with alyona currently on the team, especially if she decides to go to graduate school at LSU and stick around for a couple years as a graduate volunteer assistant, I could see a relatively seamless transition to college for them.

The Gadarova twins from GBR would be great in NCAA! They’re currently 16 years old. Ava Stewart from Canada might be another one to try to recruit.

Andrade is 22, pretty sure she wouldn’t do NCAA/is professional.

Feels like a lot of Canadians have historically gone to UCLA? I'd definitely be keen on Ava though. A lot of potential.

Andrade is professional and her endorsements etc pay for her family, so pretty sure that's out of the picture.

As a long time fan of the Russians I think that's very unlikely as well. There's the significant language barrier for school and they are on the Russian national team as rising stars (where they get paid).

I think a few have gone to UCLA. I know shallon is at Bama and a few years ago we had Jessica Savona on the team. UGA has a few canadians as well and Maegan Chant went to florida so it seems more spread out. Also know that Emma Spence is heading to Nebraska in the fall

We can’t possibly forget about Jennifer Wood! One of LSU’s all time greats and an Olympian for Canada. There is someone else I’m forgetting who was on the team around the early 2000s.

What about Degteva? Wasn’t she Canadian?

With fall camp around the corner, what do y'all want to see this fall leading up to the season?

Vault: Minimum of at least five 10.0 vaults (ideally should be six given what we have)

Bars: Cleaning up dismounts form and landings, and fine tuning handstands before dismounts (weak point of last season).

Beam: Adjust leaps series for select gymnasts and development of underclassmen on this event (Dunne and Finnegan especially).

Floor: Outside of watering down Bryant's dismount, not much else other than enjoying Courtney's choreography.

Ideally, the two events we need to make a stronger push on is beam and bars. If they can get those events to be in the 49.400-49.500 routinely, it gives this team a strong shot considering how stacked vault and floor is.

For me, given the talent and the depth of this team, I see no reason why we shouldn’t have 6 10.0 start value vaults consistently every meet. In fact, since Garrett came from a team with only a few they were hitting consistently on a regular basis, I hope he as the new vault coach really pushes for 6 10.0’s this upcoming season and in future years. It worked in Michigan’s favor this past season and I don’t know any reason why we shouldn’t take advantage of it it too.

For bars, I completely agree with you. Honestly I’d rather see cleaner routines with lower difficulty and easier dismounts if it means the girls get higher scores than going for the harder routines that aren’t as clean.

Beam: more exhibition routines when possible and more rotations of who’s in the lineup every week so girls like Elena, Livvy, Sierra, Aleah, Tori, Kai, and anyone else I’m missing that’s not a covid year senior gets more competitive experience in the beam lineup since they’re the future of this team. Also I want to see ZERO rotating leaps for the girls in the lineup since we seem to be deducted the most on those unless it’s a switch leap to straddle quarter and they’re able to hit both positions. That’s the only one I’d be ok with.

On floor: I’m excited to see the type of influence Courtney has on the girls when it comes to new floor routines, especially for our girls who are the bigger performers.

With the talent on the team this season, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t have a 49.400+ weekly score average on every event and if we don’t, the coaches need to take a long hard look at the lineups and the skills in each routine and figure out why it is we aren’t getting those scores and fix those issues sooner rather than later.

While I understand helping the freshman adjust to their first season of college gym, if a girl is routinely not sticking or hitting a skill, I pray they the coaches change and switch it sooner rather than waiting for their sophomore season.

Is LSU the only team that doesn’t do a double back dismount on bars? UCLA, Michigan, Utah, Cal, Alabama and etc all have at least one routine that does. It’s just interesting to me. I see no point in throwing a wonky E dismount with form problems and inconsistent landings, it’s deductions on deductions.

I believe we are the only top team aside from OU that does not do the double back off bars

Thanks, I couldn’t remember exactly

Funny, Cal led the country in bars NQS average by over a.10 of a point

I am hoping Bryant halfing her dismount will put her into the 9.9s more regularly sticking the dismount more.

Hopefully Dunne routine can clean up a bit more this off-season. Honestly she hasn’t even scraped the surface of what she is capable of. They have to clean up her half pirouette and work on the dismount.

How they construct Aleah will be interesting to me. Her bars construction as an elite was not exactly helpful to say the least, the dismount especially.

I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing Livvy do an Amelia Hundley (from Florida) type routine if it means getting rid of the half turn on the low bar. So basically start on the low bar and go kip cast handstand, Shaposh to Pak to kip cast handstand, toe on Shap half with a double layout dismount. Meets all the difficulty, she’s competed all of those skills at one point or another and it could be much cleaner than what she’s doing now.

I agree with you on HB and that is interesting about Cal.

For Aleah, she’s said she’s keeping her deltchev. If I could create her bar routine it would be kip cast handstand into her deltchev, kip cast hand to bail on the low bar, transition up to high bar the same way her older sister did with a double layout dismount which GAGE girls are all known for having notoriously good form on that skill.
