The story of this team is injuries. So sad because all these gymnasts are so talented. Don’t see LSU making Nationals at this point. Sometimes it’s just not your year.

Ok everyone - we cant judge this team yet because we haven’t seen this team yet. There’s still so many people that will end up in lineups that we haven’t even seen. Remember, our goal right now is just to be in the top 6 of RQS - and that’s all. If we accomplish that, then it’s to get to Nationals and end up in the Final Four. Don’t look ahead of the next milestone on the calendar. We can’t win a national title today, so there’s no reason to expect that performance tonight. Trust the process and our coaches.

Eh I wouldn't say that but LSU needs to go to the drawing board with the routines. Get rid of the double backs at the end for a few routines.

Scrap Alyona's bar routine for a simple routine.

We have injuries that we can't do anything about but LSU can be smarter and control the routines we put out there. We aren't maximizing our scores despite these injuries.

Is Kennedi injured? Or sick? I was surprised to see her on beam and floor after being out of the vault and bars lineup.

Her arm is injured which is why she didn't do bars or vault

I am almost at the point where they need to get rid of the double Arabian. We are in week 5 and it still has been a mess each week. Put a double pike to open the routine and focus on being clean. It is not worth doing a double Arabian that has major form and landing issues.

Same with Gunter

Zero point in doing the difficulty when you can't hit consistently. I would rather basic routines we can hit cleanly than messy routines for the sake of difficulty.

Kiya was incredible again today. Nice to see Alyona smile and get a routine to her feet.

I agree. Without Edwards and Edney at full strength, this team looks lost. I didn’t expect the fall from Ruby on vault. Rau clearly isn’t ready and it looks like she’s just filling a spot. Bars was okay but Edney was missed. I’m glad that Alyona finally hit her routine! Interesting that Kai wasn’t used on beam tonight. Glad that Desiderio was back but she still looks labored. All that wrapping worries me. Floor is still a mess. The double backs are what’s hurting the score.

Not sure if what DD and Jay have in store in terms of routine changes and composition, but clearly some things need to change.

Can we discuss Burgess’ 9.8 on beam with two major major balance breaks and a step on her dismount? I thought that would be a 9.65 at best and I’m really good at guessing the scores. That alone would have put the meet much closer. We still lost it on vault. Can’t even blame it on Edney and Edwards being out of the lineup because Rau and Ruby are usually in the lineup and let us down. Rau maybe should take some time to step back, she was rushed in. I thought the Nibbs vault was great. She can stick that and score big. Rau hasn’t shown a single vault that looks solid. I don’t even trust her to get in the 9.8s at this point.

And I’m just going to say it. Edney is looking thick. Probably just her body type but I think that has a lot to do with her being unable to handle the double Arabian anymore. It’s ok, though, just change the pass! DD is so damn stubborn. At least she came to her senses and took the front tuck out of Kiya’s beam routine. Now if she would only fix the other dozen easily fixable issues.

We better be thanking our lucky stars that Sarah's injury wasn't more serious. She was looking damn good this season. Hoping they play it safe for the next 2 weeks, having her back by 16 Feb against Kentucky might still be optimistic, but she would be a real help there.

Any idea whether we can get Ryan vaulting this season? Rau just isn't cutting it, and honestly I think Nibbs has earned that spot next week over Rau. I was impressed that Ruby picked herself back up after her vault floor and delivered on ub and fx, she has a tendency to get a bit in her head after a mistake, so that was good growth.

The difficulty on floor is killing us. UCLA finesses routines by doing jumps out of tumbling passes. A lot easier to get a 10 like Gracie Kramer if you're landing a pass on your whole front rather than sticking on feet. We need smarter routines. Interesting that LSU's 2 away scores are higher than all 3 home scores though... don't know if any other team can say that.

I think we should all refrain from talking about weight....gain and/or loss. It’s a sensitive subject for everyone, especially girls their age.

Re Alabama's overscoring, we've been at the receiving end of some generous scores too (see every single floor score of Olivia Gunter this season).

Was it a bad meet? Yes, but under the injury circumstances, I'm willing to write it off. By now, we all know where the weak links are. The bigger worry is that we have some non-Super Six worthy routines that are looking like lineup locks.

VT: Rau. But we don't really have a significantly better alternative so I'd stick with her and let her find her feet.

UB: It's a strong lineup but nothing spectacular. No one is capable of scoring a 10. Alyona's DLO needs to go. It's a glaring built-in deduction. Rivers doesn't even need her Tkatchev to get a 10 SV, and yet she does one.

BB: Dean. In yet another example of poor routine construction, they've ADDED a jump to her routine when she can't do a deduction-free jump. I'd prefer putting Rivers in the lineup.

FX: Gunter. That double arabian gives me a heart attack. She has a different landing issue every week. Sometimes she goes out of bounds, sometimes she's short. There's no consistency at all. IMO, she has been extremely lucky to get the scores she's been getting. A healthy Rivers, Ryan or Desiderio should displace her from the lineup.

I honestly think kennedi has lost some of her heart for gym. She doesn’t even look that excited to be out there sometimes. It’s kinda sad for her. I agree with everyone about routines. I think we’re just too thin to make it past regionals this year but hoping I’m wrong. I still love watching them!

Just as a casual observer Christena on beam looked like desperation wrapped up like she was. looked like they were pushing her. Just my 2.

LSU is being out coached. It seems as though other coaches are starting to take the “Oklahoma” route to maximize scores. However, we seem to just keep making our gymnast do more which causes built in deductions. Also, why does it seem none of our leaps (especially on beam) have improved over the years?

Really?

It was a great gut check for Kennedi to get out and compete on beam and floor because her team needed her. The meet was till in the balance and she gave it all she had. Why can't some of you appreciate the great athletes we have instead of trying to find the negatives that you know nothing about.

There is a lot of pressure on that young lady to lead this team along with Ruby and neither one has the fiery personality of the previous senior leaders. Trust me when she showed up last night it spoke volumes to the young team.

All but 4 or 5 coaches would love to have DD and Jay's problems right now. They were missing the equivalent of 6 starters out of 24 and two others were limited with injuries and they still came close to defeating the healthy # 7 team in the country. That was an incredible effort to pick themselves off the mat after vault and force BAMA to get some great closing beam scores. This team will be a force when all the injuries are healed and the freshman have another month of competition.

I thought the same thing about Christina. It made me wonder if Kai’s foot is getting worse, because otherwise why would you put in an injured Christina or Bridget over Kai?

I’m coming to accept we have people in lineups that are forced to be there because there aren’t other options. Between recruiting misses from some classes, the loss of Bailey, McKenna deciding not to take the 5th year, and the junior class is just being held on with ace bandages, this is what you get. I said in another thread, the coaches really just need to help this banged up team by making things easier not harder. Hopefully they can heal up some in the next 3-4 weeks.

I’m looking forward to them bringing in some great talent in the next two classes to build the depth back up.

I agree. I just cannot think of a time when one team has suffered this many injuries. Just one of those years I guess. LSU was able to get by last year with Lexie being injured a lot due to depth. They have depth in numbers but not bodies.

I don’t think khill75 was knocking Kennedi, or not appreciating her dedication or effort in any way. We all know Kennedi is an amazing gymnast, and she really did give it her all last night in spite of being injured. We just fell a little short. What I believe khill75 meant was that she doesn’t look as happy, and it was a statement of disappointment FOR Kennedi, not IN Kennedi. Probably has something to do with Kennedi’s tweet last week where she said college gymnastics isn’t as fun anymore because of the discrepancy in scoring. Just my take!

Thank you! That was exactly what I meant. I think kennedi is a rockstar I just don’t think she looks as happy as she has in years past.
