On a positive note, Gym 101 is supposed to be streamed this year

How has the training been? Anyone have info on the latest intrasquad? How are the injuries and newcomers coming along? This is a season that we are gonna really be excited about in my opinion.

I said for most of the year last year that this coming up year and even the next was going to be a better chance for us to make some noise. Last years team just wasn't good enough to win it all and it just became more obvious as the season went. A good team but not great. The ending was especially bad but they were never going to win a championship, I think this years team will have the talent to compete for one.

I am very glad that we won’t have the super seniors any longer - great girls but they never could achieve the consistency necessary, especially on beam (as we saw to great effect at regionals last year). One of the things I am most interested in is the beam lineup - hopefully gnat will do better with some experience under her belt.

I don’t think the super seniors were the most to blame. I really think it was a lack of coaching more than anything. I think having Gnat, Courtney, and Garrett together for one year, Jay Clark not utilizing depth. Those seniors were here for the glory days and should not be discredited for their achievements throughout their careers. It could’ve been a different story had the coaches took out a layout from Finnegan after a fall. They were a top 5 team by the end of the season and decided “to loose their minds” in my DD Breaux voice when it really counted. Talent was there, but consistency wasn’t. That’s on the athletes but also the staff.

I completely agree - that beam was both due to the staff and athletes, but its clear they never got to the consistency necessary to truly compete in the post season - look at desiderio and her post season record (they are great girls who filled a lot of holes but could never replace the steadiness of the finnegan/hambrick/priessman/Kelly era (yes, I know Kelly and priessman were not generally beamers, but the general time frame), whether due to injuries nerves or otherwise).. My point was I hope to achieve more consistency and hopefully with a more experienced coach and without athletes who weren’t consistent under both DD and gnat, we’ll see improvement.
One thing I will applaud gnat for last season though is she seemed to take a lot of the difficulty out of the leap combos which was a good step.

Saw on Twitter that cammy hall is injured and out for the season
Posted on 12/8/22 at 5:15 pm to Twz
I heard she was injured but didn't know how bad it was. That makes me sad, she seemed to be doing really well this fall and she seemed to be having the best time at LSU.

Hoping she gets an extra year of eligibility if she wants it. I heard her floor was one of the best intrasquad routines. Very sad!

Here is the link to Jay's press conference. Sounds like depth may be a potential problem, especially on bars. On a positive note, Jay said Alyona is the healthiest she has ever been at LSU!

I don’t understand how depth could be a problem. We have some great underclassman, use them!!

Right? By now, Aleah, Tori, Jeffrey (showcased great bars at meet the bruins) and Cowan (per her instagram) should have been trained enough to be able to compete bars. Add Kyia, Olivia, Kai, Haleigh and (maybe?) Arenas. That's 9. And there's also potential in Chase and Wilson.. Honestly, can't understand the depth thing.
Edit: forgot Alyona lol

Totally agree with your comments. We lost Durante but should have all u stated with the exception of Kai. I don’t think after this last injury she will be contributing on bars. I was baffled by him saying that. Are there injury’s he’s not disclosing or what? That’s why I asked how has the training been? Anyone on this board would like to comment on the practices or intra squads they have been having. I guess 101 will show us the lack of depth.

Lets hypothetically remove Dunne (shoulder) and Kai off the depth chart right now for bars. You still have:
Kiya
Bryant
Alyona
Finnegan
Jeffrey
Arenas
Tatum
Wilson
Cowan
If we have a issue on bars, it won't be depth. We have to start developing and fine tuning some of these routines. They have plenty enough talent and depth to be very solid on this event. And Dunne is not even out of the rotation, they are just bringing her back along slowly. So in reality LSU has 10 (11 if you want to count Brock).
They changed Arenas routine since her pak was wonky when done alone, its now connected directly to her release. Her issue isn't handstands, it was mostly the pak and the dismount.

I am both worried and encouraged by Jay’s press conference. I am worried that he has the 10.0 vaults to start six, but won’t - I hope he changes his mind toward the end of the season. I am encouraged though, that he says he has implemented higher standards etc and that loving each other as a team is important, but so is the mental aspect of competing and winning. They seem to be prioritizing that and if we can get some vocal leaders to push the team, then maybe this season will be a turning point for Jay.
I say a turning point because for the last two years we have been going the wrong direction (similar to his time at UGA). There are a lot of reasons for that - especially with COVID so I am
Reserving judgment (mostly anyway), but I feel like Jay has something to prove this year.

I agree with your stance about vault. IMO vault has been the biggest difference in who has won the national championships the last 2 seasons. Michigan and Oklahoma have won on the strength of 10 vaults. Kiya, Haleigh, Bryce are the back end of the rotation. You have Finnegan and Alyona . That’s 5. Now maybe not every week , but fulls even when stuck may only max at a 9.9 come the end. Tatum has a 1 and a half and K.J is capable of a double. There is no way we shouldn’t be putting those vaults out on the floor. The places we don’t have a lack of depth, I don’t understand a top program not utilizing all the potential it has.
Posted on 12/11/22 at 6:13 pm to Sofly225
Even though she fell the 1 time she competed vault, Kam Ryan has also shown that she is more than capable of hitting a stick 1.5 vault. Also, isn’t Brock also training a 1.5 too? Even with Hall out this year, it seems like our issue with the team this year isn’t lack of depth on events but when, where and how to utilize the depth we have, as well as continued improvement with routine construction. Last year was a step in the right direction on beam especially taking out the switch half’s but it’s gonna take more than just that to surpass teams like Michigan, OU, Florida and Utah for the title this year
