And with the chaos that came inthe second half of the meet, I forgot one of the larger pieces of evidence of Jay’s coaching failures. Alyona’s dismount - we have been saying it for years and today it finally happened and was devalued. That’s how she always does it. He has to change to a pirouette double tuck ASAP - or Get her out of the lineup. Once one judge makes that decision, the other judges are likely to
Do so. And that is a true coaching decision.

I think we are past the point of no return when it comes to her dismount. I personally think Alyona's routine tonight was outstanding, some of her best work but I think the routine would be much cleaner with the pirouette to a double tuck. Tonight showcases the risk moving forward with Alyona's current construction. They can't always bank on her getting credited for a DLO, one judge clearly did not. She isn't the only one either, a meet last weekend (can't think at the top of my head) but they downgraded one gymnasts skills on bars because it wasn't in adequate enough form. It was actually a topic of discussion this offseason for judges so it'll be interesting to see how things transpire moving forward.
I see many clamoring online wanting Ballard moved behind Alyona on floor. Ballard has been a nice surprise this year, she looks better than ever.
With no Kiya moving forward (at the minimum in the short term). I think you have to look into Tatum doing vault, Cowan doing bars, etc. It is what it is at this point and the routines that are there to potentially better the team in the long run have to develop.

can someone explain to me why the judges at this meet had multiple delays?

Idk about every delay but they stopped the competition at one point because of some type of flash photography or flash of light coming from the crowd. Its obviously not allowed at these meets during the competition due to safety reasons.
One of them thinking back I think there was a disagreement about start value. I don't know what the original splits were but if they are that far off the judges are required to discuss it and address the discrepancy. No doubt that is what occurred with Alyona's bar routine

It generally has to with a scoring discrepancy (usually related to start value) or in the case of Brice - they were likely having to take a while to actually figure out what skills to credit/how to credit them (eg they didn’t credit her dismount I don’t believe becuas your feet have to touch first). In alyons case on bars I think it was due to a score split issue (judges split if their scores are x tenths apart to come to a closer agreement) related to how both judges credited her dismount (one gave her credit and one did t).
TLDR - usually the delays are caused because the judges are revisiting start values, for one reason or another.

thank you. never seen so many in one meet.

I say go down to two floor passes for everyone to preserve their bodies.
I agree with this…accidentally downvoted you. Sorry!
Did Aleah and Haleigh have two passes last year? I think this would be a great idea especially since we will be relying on them even more this year now with Kiya out.

Possible line up additions for Monday:
Floor-Elena
Beam-keep Elena for Kiya, add Alyona for Bryce
Bars- Livvy for Kiya
Vault- chase or Alexis for Kiya. There’s been talk of Tori but I am doubtful

What is up with Tori? Is she hurt or Jay just not putting her out there yet? And more Alyona?? It’s scary if she’s our best option.
Before the injuries last night, I was hoping Jay would pull Alyona out of some rotations going forward. She’s not precise or graceful. Now I doubt if that will happen.

I’d rather go Jeffrey for beam instead of Alyona. Personally that’s just my opinion and she’s cleaner

Based on what I saw from Meet the Bruins meet she would easily give LSU a nice beam routine and score. But I doubt she will get used on beam. She isn't even listed as an alternate and she wasn't even used at 101. Why? Not sure...
Alyona scares me with her consistency when she gets into her funk (she doubts herself too much) but her beam is probably much better than her bars if we are being truthful. She at least has good form on that event and doesn't have a routine with built in deductions.
I'm assuming Elena and Alyona get put on beam Monday. Alyona at least has much more extensive experience on beam and has at least had some success on this event in the past. Ballard doesn't have that body of work so I doubt Jay rolls her out.

Wow the Wasatch Classic scores are crazy. A level above SEC over scoring. Jade Carey with two tens on routines with clear errors.

It’s becoming more and more clear that scoring is completely out of control. The level of gymnastics has been raised but the scoring doesn’t separate the great from the very good. Something has to change but season after season we see the same thing. The only thing that has been done is reducing the Yurchenko full to a 9.95 and now adding the lines on the landing mat. Nothing at all for the other events.

Idk how this works with gymnastics, but since kiya is likely done would she get granted another year since she got injured since she is a senior
Posted on 1/15/23 at 6:57 am to Biggmatt78
Kiya has a 5th year (because of Covid) if she wants too take it.
Posted on 1/15/23 at 7:14 am to Bayougallc
What if Kiya, Kai and Cammy all came back next year and were all healthy!?!?????!! ! Probably unlikely but a girl can dream.

If the injury is season ending Kiya would have two years of eligibility as she no would certainly qualify for an injury redshirt for this season.

We can only hope. The only positive in this difficult situation is that it happened the second meet of the season. She definitely has a redshirt year if she wants to take it. Just imagine if this happened right before the championship part of the season. Isn’t she in grad school ? How does eligibility work if your done with school?

Jade Carey's vault that scored a 10 is hilarious. She literally hopped.
LINK
The funny thing is some of the vault scores in the Florida/Auburn meet. Dicello got a 9.9 after very under rotating her vault. Gobourne for Auburn took a big hop then multiple steps and somehow ended with a 9.9
Dicello Vault
Gobourne Vault
I know every program in America will get bogus scores from time to time. Its the nature of the sport but I do think there has been a downward trend in judging going on for a while now and it should be addressed.
