This is a popular topic and a warranted discussion.

Here are the tiers that I have gathered. I made these tiers based on resources, booster support, funds, program success, and coaching staff. All these things matter in recruiting at this point in time.

Tier 1:
Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, and Oregon.

Tier 2:
Texas AM, LSU, Oklahoma, Miami, Notre Dame, USC, and Florida State.

Tier 3:
Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, Clemson, Ole Miss, and Penn state.

Tier 4 is pretty much everyone else.

Can LSU get to tier 1? Absolutely they can. LSU has money to be spent, they have just wisely spend it and hold back more than majority of schools. Open up the chest a little bit more, along with hiring a better staff (specifically defense) and LSU would likely jump there way into tier 1.

Curious about everyone’s thoughts on this, and if you think LSU being 2nd tier in recruiting can lead to a NC in this era?

I don't think Oregon belongs here and they've never been here but youre just assuming because of Nike.

Until they actually show up here over a 4-5 year span then they're solidly tier 2 or 3.

Edit: Looking at recruiting since 2022 Oregon is recruiting exactly at LSUs level roughly and that's with LSU having a few massive down years and a coaching change.

Also, USC is firmly a tier 3 recruiting school and has been for over a decade now.

Even Riley is lagging a bit.

Even in the mediocre Les Miles years LSU was still at Bama level in terms of producing NFL talent.

That’s fair.

Nike does play a big part in why I have them there at this point in time.

Looking at the rankings from previous years you could make a strong case LSU has out recruited Oregon consistently.

LSU is in about the same tier they’ve been in the last 20 years.

Consistently around that top 5 range with some top 3’s sprinkled in.

So dumb to include a team who has a grand total of TWO 10 win seasons since 1995 in the same breath as LSU and Oklahoma. There’s nothing about A&M that’s “tier 2”. Their pretend money doesn’t make them good in the real world

Gotta remember we are talking about recruiting here. Obviously LSU and Oklahoma have been way more successful as programs. However, Texas AM has recruited well and their funds and booster support will keep them afloat in the recruiting part. So that is why I have them at tier 2 today.

Based on some on here, LSU is in the recruiting “tears”. I think we’re top 3-8 which means we should be competing for Championships every year with a well led program.

A&M has ONLY become a recruiting big boy since NIL came into play.

Before that, they constantly struggled to bring elite talent to college station because who the frick wants to be an Aggie unless you’re getting paid for it?

Amazing fact is that Miami & aTm still can't field good teams. Also, watch Nebraska as they may start heading into Tier 3 if they get things rolling with the new coaching regime.

Oregon is probably No. 1 overall in NIL money and organization of spending.

But they are also located in Oregon, which hurts them in recruiting a bit, so their results don’t totally match the money.

Remains to be seen if being in the Big 10 will change this.

I mean we've had a couple of down years but should be back to tier 1 next year with 3 5 stars (and #1 guys at their position) likely committing by Jan 6.

#1 quarterback in a class can do great things for recruiting.

Next years class will catapult LSU into a God tier that few teams have ever attained, and one that only Bama and UGA were able to keep who they wanted on their roster.

This year's class belongs in tier 2 for now. I firmly believe when we look on this class in hindsight, it will be rated as a top 5 recruiting class.

There are many stars and starters amongst this group of young men.

Recruiting tier isn't really the whole indicator now. It's about a third high school recruiting, a third development, and a third retention of current athletes. LSU has had issues with the last one especially. So many guys leave early, even when it isn't a great idea.

In the last 15 years LSU has finished ahead of Texas 8 times. So we are either tier 1 or they are in tier 2.

Years? It was less than 2 years ago the roster had 38 scholarship players on it.

Auburn is back in tier 2.

They are throwing money and recruiting well.
