6'2 with 4.3 speed, Coop would've done wonders with this kid. It'll be interesting to see how he and all of our young DBs develop under Raymond.

From the latest entry in The Miami Herald High School Blog

“That’s what is great about the off season,” said Corey Long of ESPN. “You not only have a spring, where there are 20 days of actual football, and also the 7-on-7 events, which have given the skilled athletes a huge advantage.”
“You would be amazed at how many football players that many fans have never heard about that are big time prospects,” Says South Florida Express 7-on-7 founder Brett Goetz. “We had so many quality athletes in every class at our tryout, we formed two teams. That’s how impressive the talent is.”
While the marquee athletes continue to get noticed, there are others who are now stepping up to the plate and getting that well-deserved attention.
Here are a few local athletes who have helped themselves in the four plus months since the season ended:

Is it because he hasn't made a visit yet? I know you can't repeat premium info, but can you at least say yes or no?

From what I have heard and read yes

Not necessarily a visit, but they want to see him perform at camp

What I figured as well. Kind of strange for a kid to be allowed to commit(at LSU) without ever being on campus or being seen in person by Les. Our staff doesn't work that way like some others do.
Also don't get the fit unless he's a S which I could see. Unless Jefferson,White or Brazil is moving to offense, how many cbs can we take? We have other needs but I do like Robinson. He'd be a good pickup as I posted earlier but the staff holding off is the best course of action considering who's on the board and him being a FL kid. Those kids are notoriuosly unreliable in terms of the word commitment.
His upside is much greater than Ellis' and he could play S or CB with his size. Ellis is very good as a cover guy and the better player currently but will he be in 2 years? Not likely. He is what he is. He can't get bigger(most likely but growth spurts can happen late) or much faster. He's limited. As good as Mathieu is even he struggles with bigger, more physical receivers. Ellis would be worse. It's unfortunate for the kid and his fans but the reality is that unless he camps and kills it, he will not be a Tiger.

And let'snot forget that the 2014 secondary class for LSU looks like it is going to be filled with a couple of real stud CB possibilities (Brown, Payne, Paris, and Peppers for starters). Note that I do not expect Hootie to play CB in college.

Nah not part of the crew "Brah" just love how people trash the guy on here and then make themselves look stupid when he actually knows something.
Not saying the guy is always right but people act like hes just some guy who doesnt know his sh*t when he actually knows some people and has some info at times. The guy runs a free site and gives interesting info about LSU recruiting and people knock him for it.
+1

don't really get that we have to see him at camp.
is it because he is a borderline LSU talent? I would be surprised to know that all 9 commits have been to LSU camp (I know they are all La. guys). even if so, the camps were a year ago.

It's not that all the guys have been to camp, it's that the coaches have seen all of them in person and been able to evaluate them in the way they feel it necessary to make a decision.
It's not just about film, they want to see how he performs in certain drills, how he takes coaching attitude-wise, and how he implements coaching into his play.
They don't have to do it at camp, for Cuter, they were able to see enough when they went to his school last year to eval an OL we ended up not offering.

thateasttxboy, what are you hearing about when lacoutre will commit or does he have to go to camp also. will we get him?
Posted on 5/1/12 at 8:21 am to Larry Hollins
project, are you saying we sent a coach to evaluate an ol prospect and that same coach could also evaluate a db prospect and get him an early LSU offer. surprising!
Posted on 5/1/12 at 8:47 am to Larry Hollins
Larry,
Christian visited Michigan and Nebraska and his top 3 are LSU, Michigan and Nebraska. He is going to wait out until he visits all 3 schools once again. No date is set.

If I had to guess, we sent someone to evaluate the OL and they saw the DB and recommended that we send someone to eval him and that's how he got the offer.
I don't know the semantics of the situation, but Cutrer got his offer because we saw him when we went to check on the Blackburn kid last year. I realize you're trying to call bullshite on the story because you seem to want to pick apart the way the staff works, but what I'm saying is accurate.

I think evaluating players, especially corners,is pretty much a science with the LSU coaching staff. From reading some quotes from Frank Wilson and Ron Cooper over the last couple of years, there are drills they do that help them see a kid's current skill level and possible ceiling. As project said they pay close attention to how "coachable" a kid it too.
I think they look to see if a kid has the physical tools they know playing a position requires. If the kid has those tools and shows that he is both willing and able to comprehend the coaching they know they can provide, he'll get the offer.
In the camp situation they know the skill level that the kids guys are competing against. With the more "unknown" players that may not be the case. This is especially true in Florida because of the flexible transfer rules. It seems like the kids from smaller schools and less competitive football programs transfer into larger or more successful program by their junior or senior year,
ETA:
A similar situation occurred with the 2012 class with Jalen Mills over here in Texas. He played at Lancaster High a "bad" 4A program. He transferred into DeSoto a very successful 5A program. He didn't have a bunch of "big time" offers because no one had seen much from him. The LSU coaches offered him after seeing him in camp last summer.
