We all remember Caleb Williams putting LSU in his top 3 a few weeks back out of the blue and then finding out LSU wasn't really recruiting him anyway.

This got me thinking: Did Brian Kelley avoid a ploy that Ed O and Les Miles typically fell for?

Think bout how many times a recruit like Tristan Leigh or Patrick Surtain kept LSU on the line despite already knowing where they wanted to go. LSU would miss on these guys at the last minute without time to make a backup plan.

Caleb Williams possibly put LSU in his top 3 strategically (maybe at the advice of USC) to get us to waste resources in him and miss on other guys.

Am I on to something or do I need to take my tin foil hat off?

Yea I know that. He was going there all along which makes it even more strange to me that he put LSU in his top 3 despite us not recruiting him.

Don't see why USC would give a shite about sabotaging LSUs recruiting class. We're in a different conference, don't play each other, and rarely recruit the same kids

I just don’t see USC going to that extreme to hobble recruiting efforts of a team they won’t play for another two years. Oregon? Sure, that would make sense. LSU? They’re across the country from them. And it’s not like Howard was close to Riley or anything. I just don’t see the juice being worth the squeeze in this scenario.

ETA: I think if there were any motivations for Caleb to say that (other than I think he legitimately liked LSU’s program), they were monetary. NIL makes the most sense here.

Yes its tin foil territory my man. Recruits want attention sometimes and LSU is considered a cool school/brand. It helps get LSU in the door to pulling a kid from Ohio or Colorado. But at times kids just include LSU to make them look better.

If a staff doesn't have back up plans ready to go in this recruiting environment... then they are lost.

Most like the idea of death valley cause it's iconic. But other factors are involved with where 18 year olds priority lies. In this case specifically I believe Williams just wanted big names he liked included. USC following his coach was the only choice he was going to make in my opinion.

Any coach that didn’t put some resources towards Caleb Williams the moment he hit the transfer portal is not doing his job correctly.

Only a top notch FBI agent like Bert Macklin could have cracked this conspiracy. Well done, agent.

If you lack options, you lack leverage. Throwing LSU or any other name out there helps the USC bag get bigger.

I think the answer is pretty simple. He just added us to create some extra suspense and draw more attention to his final announcement.

I'm not saying you are wrong but why was he still talking to ucla sunday.

Why did he go to wisconsin and hear their pitch?
Supposedly he liked the pitch but they could only come up with 300k from boosters.

I'd love to know the real story about caleb williams and lsu.

Did he contact Kelly or the other way around. Cakeb williams would've been at lsu had brady stayed.

Yes. Good take.
Tristan Leigh definitely used up a lot of resources last year and had already signed his NLI with Clemson.
This staff is doing its research and finding the players that fit the alignment

Exactly!!! His coach, that benched the starter so he could start as a Freshman, leaves for USC and then he goes into the transfer portal. Whoever thought he wasn’t going to USC really needs to use their brains for something other than a paperweight.

I made just shy of a grand from betting on this with friends, I gave them the entire NCAA field and I took USC. Thank you Mr. Williams for your obvious destination, I will drink a toast to your decision when I get paid “which there will be the real test who will actually pay off their bets - lol”
