Question for bball recruiting experts regarding efton Reid and incoming 5 stars

Why would Wade go get a center (Yohan Traore) if efton Reid was coming back?
I figured that meant Reid was leaving but I’m not an expert so was curious

Eason and Days are most likely leaving. I think he pushes out 2/3 of Colbert, Ezewiro, and O'neal.
Traore is listed as a center but is only about 6'9 I believe, so you could have the capability of running and NBA size 4/5 combo out there with Traore and Reid.
Think Naz Reid/KBW. Not saying that skill level, but that ability to rely heavily on your 4/5 men and have a high offensive rebounding %, something Wade has really harped on in the past.

I wouldn't think O'Neal is on the way out.
I think Colbert signed his exit slip the moment he forgot to wear a jersey.

What about Julian Phillips?

Days is gone for sure. Tari probably. At least 1 of Ezewiro and Colbert will be pushed out. Frontcourt probably gonna be Yohan/Reid/Phillips/O'Neal and either Colbert or Ezewiro

Traore can be a 4 & play with Reid if they want
In fact I’m not even sure why he’s labeled a C

I guess my question is
I hear will Wade only wants to play 8 guys
How are we gonna keep everyone on the roster next year when we only wanna play 8 guys
Next year you’ll potentially have
Miller
Allen
Gaines
Williams
Fudge
O’Neal
Wilkinson
Reid
Traore
Ree
Phillips
Murray
How can we find playing time for all these guys?

That's a nice problem to have. The key will be if they all buy in.

You won’t. It’s okay for talented guys to sit the bench. Kentucky, Duke, etc. have it happen all the time. Wade is trying to build LSU into an elite program. Stocking the roster up and down with 4 and 5 stars is how you do that.

high 4 stars and 5 stars don't wanna ride the pine

Why not?
Even if you have the top Center in the NCAA returning, you still go after top recruits at the same position.

Not necessarily, if he has 10 that can play then he will play all 10.
We will more than likely loose the two bigs on the bench along with Days & Pinson. I’m still at a wait and see on Eason’s feedback.
Wade said he wanted to add a spot up shooter also. We’ll see what happens this off season

Wade would be out of his mind pushing out Shaq’s son. I’d understand if he was awful, but he at least gives you decent minutes

I would think, ideally, any given team would want to recruit a center every year, or every other year at worst (given scholarship limits and team needs). And if a 5* that seems good for your system is interested, you'd take him most years.
As it is-- if you're going strictly off the roster on lsusports.net-- there appear to be 2 centers: Reid & Colbert. And Colbert isn't playing for whatever reason. Maybe he needs more time to develop, is injured or is not maybe not working out. Not for me to guess on that. And while some players, like O'Neal (as a tall forward), can reasonably step in and fill the center spot to some degree... if and when Reid gets into foul trouble... it might not be ideal for Wade's plans and the position does not appear stacked in the least. Remember, too, that O'Neal has been somewhat limited due to health.
Others here will have better insight into possible roster turnover and players who aren't panning out. But from my casual observer perspective, taking Traore doesn't seem like it overcrowds the frontcourt. And if he lives up to his 5* rating, he may be a very welcome asset in the rotation that helps keeps everyone fresh.

Traore has a diversified game and is a 4/5 hybrid. Reid is a pure 5 guy.
We will probably move on from Colbert and Ezewiro. Reid will be around as long as he wants to stay. Having Traore gives us another option at center to relieve Reid more properly but he also has position versatility to play the 4.
With Days leaving and Eason likely leaving, Traore's versatility and Phillips coming in help alleviate those losses.
Wade will clear out Colbert + Ezewiro to make room for Traore and very likely a guard transfer.
Marvel Allen is supposed to reclassify as well.
Wade wont carry less than 6 guards/3 ball handlers next season is my bet.

What’s the deal with Ezewiro? Is it simply that he’s just not that good/not living up to expectations?

He was always a long term developmental player. I didnt quite understand why we stuck it out with him honestly. It would have been way more useful to just take another guard in the portal.
Wade got away with only 5 guards for a few years here but this year he didnt. He'll have 6 guards on next year's roster now. Basically this year we ended up with barely any guards able to play and a slew of bigs we never play (O'Neal, Colbert, Ezewiro).
Ezewiro is an all effort guy, just not all that skilled. He would probably do better on a mid-major or lower tier power conference team.

O'Neal stays IMO.

Both. I was expecting a lot from Ezewiro. Lessoned learned...don't glean the quality of a basketball player from AAU film.
