Again you're forgetting the other part of what he said. Kingsbury has coached record breakers at QB. Baker Mayfield was a walk on as well. Davis Webb (his other QB) only had Iowa, TCU, UTSA, and Utah St offers. Kingsbury has a pass happy system and he recruits specifically for that system. He knows how to evaluate QBs.

Pat Mahomes had all the physical tools as a true freshman, and I believe he was one of those undiscovered gems like Russo could be. He was also offered by Oklahoma St so there is something.

I also think Lindsey Scott will be a beast in the right system. LSU needs to cater to the type of QB we have in the state. This stale offensive philosophy has to go the way of the dinosaurs.

A little commentary:
I sat in the end zone for the bowl game and LSU warmed up in front of me so I watched the QBs very closely. Cam was conducting warmup drills and he was very intense. As were the QBs going through the drills so spare me the "bowl game didn't matter" comments because it does matter

Harris is so much better than everyone else it is scary. I just think the game s still too fast for him at times and that gets fixed with reps and more reps

Jennings has a weird follow through on his ball like JJ did where his ball consistently "noses down" in flight. That is a flaw that makes it hard to be accurate and also hard to catch the football.

McMillan is still very thin, his footwork is very choppy and he has an awkward throwing motion. His release point was all over the place and on longer throws he sort of "shoulders it" it out there instead of firing it

Taking QBs is crucial to LSU because it is clear the learning curve of half shotgun and half under center is very very steep. So you have to have numbers to select the wheat from the chaff.

So we should melt because the staff that nobody trusts when it comes to QBs missed on their chosen QBs to pursue? Makes sense

No we should melt because the entire QB situation from evaluation to getting these guys to commit, to actual play on the field, is f**ked up. You don't drag on and on about the good parts of something because it is taken care of, you drag on and on about the parts that seem to never work and never be effective.

It's utterly ridiculous that LSU has this problem, you understand that right? I mean you DO understand that? The QB situation (the whole damn thing as mentioned above) is mind-numbing. The most important position on the field, made even more important in modern times, is never taken care of at LSU. Barring one year with a redshirt senior JUCO Mett who had 2 of the top 20 best WRs in the NFL, LSU has been total shite or very mediocre at QB since Jimbo leff.

because that would be what we would be doing if we don't sign a QB this class?

I mean yeah if LSU has 3 QBs get injured we will be in trouble

And so would every other football team in the country

except those named THE Ohio State University...

ETA: Syracuse's 3rd (4th??) string guy held his own as well, as well as other backups we faced

I wanted my boys to be lock down corners when they grow up like dad. I think we might start working on some dropbacks this week tho lol . He'll commit as soon as offered, grades are awesome, 1st grade reading on a 3rd grade level so I figure he'll be able to read A&M's defense soon.

Where was genius Jimbo when Matt Flynn was a sophomore and junior at LSU?
Was QB development even discussed back then? The favorite expression was ... "the light will go on. ..." Not everyone matures at the same rate. Bert Jones didn't do much until late in his junior year.
Flynn helped win a national championship as a redshirt senior in 2007.

So your argument is that Harris is going to turn the corner in his junior season so we're ok, and by the time he leaves we'll have a true sophomore ready? You don't understand the issue there?

Watson is the exception, not the rule. McMillan will be a RS-junior but who's to say he waits that long or turns out to be a SEC QB? It can't be said enough, you have to recruit more QBs than you will ever play because inevitably over half of them will transfer or suck. It's just the way it is. LSU has to take a QB this year AND next year even if they aren't "elite" prospects.

ETA: it's ironic you named your thread "The Reality", because it's unrealistic to assume every QB LSU signs will eventually develop into a capable starter. The "reality" is the majority of them won't, and that needs to be mitigated by signing one every year.

I am not writing off McMillan or Etling. I am just assuming the status quo as of now is that B. Harris is our QB and the QB to beat. If Justin Mc. comes out this spring and is the best QB then I guess he will play. The only thing is that Les tends to give certain players the benefit of the doubt for some reason and often doesn't give certain players a real chance to win out at a position including QB.

Holding opponents to much less than 14 points per game is asking a lot.

Looking for a little info from you NOLA guys that have seen him play...

(Yes, I know this isn't LSU related but I didn't want to start a completely different thread)

What do you guys think of Matt Keller who has seen Shaw play? He doesn't have a ton of passing yards, but from what I gathered, Shaw was a run all the time team.

Saw his highlights and he looks like he has a pretty good arm.

Could anyone else who has seen him play tell me any more about the kid?

Not true. Mahomes was at many camps including LSU junior day. He was top 50 player in Texas. I know for a fact he also received an Okie State offer. I don't know the others, but tech and okie state are pretty big.

Why elite qb's stay away.
- Les Miles cannot develop a qb
- Because of this, the Franks, Pattersons, Haskins wont come
- Les Miles is forced to run the ball heavily because we don't have a qb who can make throws, read defenses
- This only confirms Les' offensive approach and that nothing is wrong with it
