Let me say that a bit differently for further clarification:

Schools can sign players AFTER the portal closes on January 16, 2026.


Players can sign with new schools after the transfer portal window closes on January 16, if their name was already in the portal before the January 16 deadline. The window is for entering the portal, not for committing, and players can take their time to choose a school.

The NCAA Winter Transfer Portal window for 2024 opened on December 9, 2024, and closed on December 28, 2024.
