So I just read in the more sports board about the pole vaulter at Live Oak High who just cleared 17'1" who is in the running for national high school athlete of the week.

From what someone said, he is going to Kansas because he never got an offer from LSU, but he is purple and gold all the way.

Can someone explain how this could happen?

Title nine. We can't have too many males on scholarship because then we need to get more females, who don't want to play sports, on scholarship. Now, if he would identify as a woman we might be on to something.

Isn't there a pole vault fence around Louisiana that's supposed to keep the best at home?

11.7 scholarships for all of the men’s indoor, outdoor track and cross country. All events

It’s a great mark and will improve but PV is only one event. Can’t help across multiple events.

Also, why Kansas out of all the schools? There are a ton of other much better track schools. Kansas will never sniff top 5 in indoor or outdoor track

I can honestly say I’ve never read a thread about Pole vaulting Recruiting.

There’s a first for everything, right?

There is. Unfortunately, it is only 17’ high.

Todd Lane and Boo Schexnayder are probably the two best jump coaches in the country. I can assure you if they thought he’d be even a factor at the SEC meet, he’d be coming to LSU.

Kansas has one of the best vault programs in the country and the best coach. Todd and Boo are great with horizontal jumps such as long and triple jump but other than Mondo haven’t had many great jumpers.

LSU only offered to pay for books. Guess LSU assume he would comment because we are LSU. Kansas offer him a free ride, all school covered. LSU did same with my son years ago with other sport.

I can honestly say I never thought I would see the day when our pole vaulter went pro after one season at LSU
