Am I wrong in saying he keeps his spot now due to Koht leaving?

I would think.. his tape is pretty good and we don’t have any other WDEs. I think Jackson, Jones, and Langston (if he signs) will play SDE

He was rumored to be one of the ones to be processed. Think he most definitely stays now.

What exactly does a WDE do that a SDE doesn’t? Or vice versa?

Losing Koht sucks, but we are still good at DE.

How great would it be if WDE Zavier Carter could run as fast as Xavier Carter?

I wonder if Zavier would kneel the ball at the 1yd line.

Ideally you want your WDE to be a more athletic faster guy that can chase down plays from the backside. A lot of run plays don’t block the wde unless you have a guy that becomes a problem for them. You want your SDE to be a little bit bigger stronger guy that can stand his ground and fight off blocks. It is the same concept for outside linebackers

If either the FB or RB is offset, it’s to that side, if not it’s the right side so your best pass rusher goes against the LT and your best run defender goes against the RT. RT is usually better at run blocking than pass blocking.

I think Carter can be a bit unique. Might use him in an Ali Highsmith role if Pelini stays being an old school Sam Linebacker being off-ball for 2 downs and pass rush on 3rd down.

There’s always a strong side of the formation. The strong side is the side with the most guys on the line of scrimmage whether they’re split wide or beside the tackle. If both sides are equal then it’s on the side the running back lines up on. If the RB is in the I it depends on the team and their philosophy. Some teams may go off of the handedness of the QB. Others may go off of which side of the offensive line they view as the strongest.

Lots of people say Carter needs to gain a lot of weight to play DE, but I think he might actually wind up at OLB. Watching his film, he has good athleticism and straight line speed and range and seems to work through traffic to get to the ball carrier. Shows good anticipation and is decisive once he processes.

Carter may be a guy we hear about a couple of years down. He’s 6’4 and 195. He’s gonna have to add a lot of mass to fill up that Frame and I don’t doubt that he will. But it will take time
