His stats dropped significantly in 2022 probably because teams outright avoided him after how good he was as a freshman. Don't know if LSU is going to land him but that would be nice.

Was hoping we'd look at the S from Syracuse who hit the portal recently he was very good too.

Getting Chestnut would make things interesting.

If you do that you can put Toviano at safety. You might even look at Zy Alexander at safety as well.

Johnson and Chestnut would finish us off in the secondary, I would think. Then you need two linebackers and a defensive lineman and you're pretty much good to go. Though I'd like to find one more interior lineman on offense if possible.

On offense I think a high end RB and TE with experience is more important.

LSU has 7 current scholarship guys among the 47 (Davis RB is included in that # but he is visiting Pitt this weekend). Of those, Banks and Brooks are super seniors next year, Major Burns will be a SR (but he can get the COVID 2020 year back). So potentially, all 3 of those could be gone after next year. The other 4 are Ryan, Welch, Langlois and Allen.

LSU added Harris and Alexander from the Portal, that gets you to 9 guys with experience going into 2023. Again, assuming Burns, Banks and Brooks all are gone, that leaves you with 6 veteran guys heading into 2024.

LSU added 5 DB's from the 2023 HS signee class. Hughes, Stamps, Toviano, Daughterty and Yaites. I would think those 5 guys will all help out on ST next year, which LSU needs. Some of those guys, maybe all?, will separate and likely put themselves in position to be in the DB rotation for the Defense in 2024. But having both Johnson and Chestnut gives you 2 more guys with experience that you can have going into 2024 regardless of how quick the 5 DB's signed in 2023 progress for 2024.

So adding 2 veteran guys to the DB room makes sense. You will be playing 5 and 6 DB's a great deal in modern football.

If Chestnut comes he's a 1 and done. He won't be on the roster next year. Johnson has the opportunity too since he's a RS Sophomore. Chestnut would be a junior that probably has NFL grades. Only way he'd come back his senior year is to up his stock.

He is 1 and done? I think he was a 2021 signee. So he had played 2 years. He could yes go pro after next year, but he would have 2 years to play. So not sure he is necessarily 1 and done unless he really blows up in 2023.

He's already blown up. He's an all-conference player in both years even in a year where he didn't play a full season and teams avoided him. Unless he gets passed up by all the talent surrounding him he's probably not making a transfer to LSU with intentions to play past 1 season.

Again that is all fine and good, he has shown he is and all-ACC player (P5 league) in his 2 years of playing. However, what is his current NFL draft grade based on 2 years performance at Syracuse? I honestly do not know. You have some early draft grades on Chestnut based on his 2 years at the Orange.

More important than a linebacker?

No way.

Perfect assessment.

He was a major liability in run fits, he was just so scrawny looking. If he could bulk up, he could compete for a spot.
