If he didn't pan out he would have been crucified at LSU. LSU is not for the thinned skin. The SEC is not for the scared. With that said I hope he has a great career at ND, stays injury free makes it to the NFL. Looks like a good kid that just didn't know what he was getting into coming down South. :)

This situation is nothing like what Collins did. Collins made his decision and appears to be sticking with it.
Kiel made his decision for a second time, took an early enrollment spot that caused LSU to lose a top lineman and then dumped us at the 11th hour. My view is that what Kiel did was very selfish and immature

I'm not crying in my beer over losing Kiel. If the kid wanted to be at LSU, he would be. Obviously his choice. I was really more concerned once I heard he was coming, thinking maybe we'd screw up the Mett seasons ahead by trying some platoon QB bs again. Let Mett have his two years. We'll enjoy it!

Perhaps some day in the future, Gunner will look back on his career and think--"Wow, I could have gone to LSU or Alabama and played for a National Championship. But Mom wanted me close by so i stayed close." In time, the young man may be embittered because he chose to give in to pressure. Do we honestly think he could have stood up to the pressures of playing SEC football if he gave in so easily. Right now, the kid is an boy--LSU needs a man to stand on his own two feet. Let him go. He could always transfer to LSU at a later date when he grows up.

If Kiel can't handle the pressure from his Mama, how would he have done against the SEC defenses?

BINGO!!!!
This kid wold curl up in an arse-ball looking down the barrel of a BAMA defense.

Dixon said that from what he knows, kid went to leave with his bags and his mom busted out . Then called Kelly yesterday and wanted to know if he still had a spot. Would make sense cause if he told Les last week he was wavering, why would Les have made him make a decision then so we could get Patrick Miller to come early. Now we lose both.

He would get his arse kicked at LSU. He sucks. LSU is better than this kid. Glad he is not coming here!!

If I was in his position, I would have chosen ND over LSU, no question.
The reasons being:
1. He will have less QB's ahead of him at ND compared to LSU.
2. He would be playing against easier defenses, therefore put up better numbers, therefore would eventually be a higher draft pick.
3. It's close to home. My brother plays college baseball 3 hours away from home, and it's nice to be a fairly quick drive away to go watch the games or it's easy to spend a weekend at home.

"There were three critical elements I was looking for in my future school: the quality of education I would receive, the distance from home and the comfort level I would have with the players and coaches in the football program. Notre Dame was the perfect fit for me because it hit all three areas."
Since he had already raved about LSU and the way he connected with coaches and players here, I interpretted this to mean that ND had that AND it was close to home. Looks like that was the deciding factor.
As others have stated, the thing that upsets me most about this is that he cost us another recruit. Just goes to show you that kids today (and their parents) don't think about or care how their decisions affect others. Once you've made a commitment to something and others are depending on you in some way (in the this case, LSU basically giving up another recruit so you can enroll early) then you suck it up and stick with it. I know if I had backed out on a commitment that I had made and my decision would harm others who were depending on me, my daddy would have ripped me a new one and told me that I was gonna live up to my commitment come hell or high water. But that was then....now it's all about me, me, me.
