Signing Randle is great and completely necessary.
But am I stupid for being worried that we only signed one wr; last year's wr class we had, what, 1 or 2 wr's?
Are we going to be strong in wr in next year's class?

what makes everyone so sure of this? Besides the fact we signed him. Really, I wanna know how many of the people claiming either is better than the other has actually seen film on both playing that position?

think he was dumped because there was a genuine fear that he wouldn't be on the field due to academics, and Randle is a much bigger catch without that problem. Risking losing Randle over Benton was not a good gamble.
Good call by the Hat IMO.
I think you're right on the academic risk side of it. That's the bottom line. However, I still don't like recruits dictating recruiting conditions to coaches.
I just caught some of the interview, but did R.R. really say what amounts to that he wasn't going to LSU if Benton was there????

so you don't think the shot fired across the bow by randle/father last night had anything to do with it?
I don't get it.

I agree with Miles decision. How many chances do you give a player to get it right? I mean he gave RP.... Anyway, I rather Randle anyway.

good question
if i had to guess, i'd say he wanted to go to LSU, but only without DB. like i mean REALLY wanted to go
this was the only way to make it clear...maybe he did tell miles, but maybe miles didn't take it serious? that seems far fetched

Only scenerio that makes sense to me is that maybe Benton came back to Bastrop and put his own spin on what he heard from the coaches, and that didn't sit well with what the Randle family had heard from the coaches. Les gets into the middle of it, finds out that Benton is maybe twisting things to his own advantage, and pulls his offer-sending him to Aubbies???

Letting Benton go could have been a numbers management decision as well. If Miles was informed by Montgomery that he was committing to LSU, Miles may have been worried about scholarship limitations (assuming Bell's decision was unknown to Miles).
Whatever the reason, the risk versus reward for offering Benton was pretty great if Randle was the cost for Benton signing.

What dont you guys get? Benton is a 4 star that has been out for 2 years because obviously his dumb arse didnt have good enough grades... in high school. What makes ya'll think that he would stay elligible in college? Randle is a better player as well and hasn't been inactive for the past two years. Lastly, I'm not saying this kid is a pump because I dont know him, but that is the last thing that our team needs right now.

coach made a good call, I hope, and a tough one no doubt. That's why his pay scale is what it is.

I agree with this. All I am saying is that Benton opened the door with his visit to AU and then saying that he was undecided. When he essentially decommitted by saying that was undecided, then LSU was no longer obligated to honor their commitment. If DB had stayed loyal to LSU and was firm in that commitment (instead of visiting AU and then scheduling an NSD announcement to announce his decision), then there is NO WAY that Miles pulls the scholly.
I'm not saying that Miles pulled the scholarship because DB visited Auburn. I'm saying that the visit and lack of commitment from Benton made it possible for Miles to ditch him at the end when he needed to.

He's GOTTA figure Benton won't pass. if he even shows up to class. Auburn is using LSU's old recruiting strategy. Recruit many, academics will sift them out.

I don't think it's any easier to get into Auburn, so are they just taking a chance on him like we've been for two years?

guess you never heard of Chad Lavalais? let's be honest here - if coaches can get a kid into school in the first place, they are usually able to keep them eligible. and it isn't like his academic struggles are new news. imo this has nothing to do with why benton isn't in our class

Les Miles did what he had to do to get the #1 WR in the nation. In doing so, he likely had to tell an athlete with an academic problem and a potentially shorter career at LSU to take hike.
What's the problem?
Good call, Coach Miles!

agreed, the only concern i would have with this scenario is if it negatively impacted miles' relationship with the bastrop coaches.
has anyone heard where bradshaw stands on the whole thing?
