Quote instead of link: "I'm told that Tulane QB Michael Pratt is heavily considering a transfer to Power 5 after the season instead of entering the QB loaded draft"

I know every time a thought enters a player's head to enter portal from another school, we get an unnecessary post on here - so apologies for being that guy.

I am sure many will disagree, but I would love to have Pratt next year over Nuss. Granted, it would be very shitty to string Nuss along then take a portal QB - which is why I imagine this will never happen.

BUT hypothetically, which is mainly what TD is about (hypotheticals, pipe dreams, scenarios that never happen), I think Pratt would be much better for LSU. I get that Nuss has the big arm and "gun-slinger" mentality. But Pratt is old, has the Burrow mobility to him (not fast like Jayden, but mobile/tough enough to get yards on the ground), and is looking to bolster draft status - which Denbrock is proving to do.

Sorry in advance to the loyal Nuss supporters

ETA: Really hope he doesn't make his way to Bama.

I dont know who is the better QB. Using your own criteria though, the cost benefit of dumping Nuss for Pratt seems low. Role with Nuss or get

1. an "old QB" (Pratt is <6mos older than Nuss), guessing you mean more experienced
2. a slightly more mobile QB
3. a QB looking to up his draft status (Both want to be drafted as highly as possible)

The public perception hit alone might outweigh these factors much less the possibility that Nussmeier is more talented.

Gotta think that if/when LSU goes portal shopping for a QB it will be a guy with at least 2 years left to play. Not that worried about Bama taking him since it would cause a mass exodus of QBs from them.

First school that comes to mind is Ole Miss.

We don't need a QB next year. It's all the Nuss Bus next year!

Over Nuss I doubt it. He would be a good QB if we didn’t have Nuss, though

Ideally, we sign underwood and Nuss is the starter next year. He has an outstanding year and decides to leave to be a top 5 pick, although it would be nice to keep him for 2 years. Underwood, Hurley and Collins battle for the starting position in 2025.

I highly doubt they are going to be looking for a starting QB in the portal considering how patient Nussmeier has been and he CLEARLY has the talent to do big things here.

I'm not against taking maybe an elite level experienced QB if one's available (EXTREMELY rare this happens to begin with), but I'm not sure Pratt is the next Joe Burrow necessarily. Good QB, but definitely better than Nussmeier? Not sure there from what we've seen from Nussmeier in past.

IF we get a transfer QB which we may definitely do it's going to be someone like a Eli Holstein, and I'm not saying we get him, just a younger talented QB who isnt necessarily looking to start right away for us to build better depth behind Nussmeier.

Do what's best for LSU, not Nuss.

He already turned them down this past offseason and Mertz has another year

FSU, Ole Miss if Dart leaves , ND, or Bama would be my prediction on where he goes

The fact the staff rotated him in sometimes for Daniels last year and what Daniels has done this year should sell you on him pretty well. What are doing if we have a pretty talented guy here for 4 years who sticks it out if we just give up on him because another QB has played well a few years while he has hasnt been able to play much?

Dont get me wrong, I wouldnt turn down a surefire elite QB in the portal, is Pratt that? Debatable for sure. If Caleb Williams was in the portal, sure, grab him. Is Pratt for sure better than Nuss? I dont know I buy that.

Less than 2 years ago you had a lot of people on here expressing their anger when LSU took a (relatively) surprising transfer from Arizona St. when they already had a 6th year senior who had "paid his dues" in the program and had a few games of decent success. Is any rational LSU fan still angry about that decision?

Transfer QBs are a proven pathway to success. Currently 6 of the CFP top 10 teams have transfer QBs. Kelly owes a duty to the program to put the best players on the field. At the moment, when no QBs are in the portal, that looks like Nuss. However, that may change in a few months.

LSU didn't appear to be looking to take a transfer QB in 2022...then Jayden Daniels entered the portal.

Myles Brennan entered the transfer portal in November 2021, came out but was compeltely broken from his arm break injury, he was a huge question mark if he could even play so they took Daniels which makes sense.

We got a transfer QB (Daniels) because Max Johnson entered the transfer portal in December of 2021, Brennan was basically broken at that point and Nussmeier was the only QB left and was going to be a redshirt freshman besides Walker Howard coming in as a true freshman. I mean no sh*t we got a transfer QB with a broken Myles Brennan and 2 freshmen basically.

This isnt a similar situation, it was questionable how effective Brennan could even be due to his injury history (abdominal in 2020 then arm in 2021), so they got a transfer QB. It became apparent by the spring game how far off Brennan really was and he was never going to be able to operate behind a patchwork OL. I mean the dude quit the football team before the start of the season.
