one could argue our recruiting has been overrated the last few years. Sometimes the recruiting "experts" rate a guy higher than he should because he commits to a school that is top notch at the time

And he's wrong. This isn't hard to understand. There's a difference in TALENT and COACHING. The talent level is not any worse now than it was 3, 4...6 years ago. The development has left a lot to be desired though.

He should be ripping their own recruiting service if he thinks our overall talent level has declined recently. They're the ones giving us highly ranked classes with loads of talent every year.

todd mcshay is a just a talking head that is controlled by higher ups. he really has no opinion. anything he says or does is fake. he was just someone that espn went and bought just so he can argue with mel kiper jr.

We've been locking down Louisiana just like we did under Saban. I don't see why they would suddenly jusst rate LA guys higher now thanthey did back then.

What does this have to do with anything? But since you asked...

Randle
Shepard
Allen
Claiborne
Downs
Helton

And of those how many really contributed.

They are saying we have a decline in talent on the field, not in recruiting. Talent level can decline throughout college due to piss poor coaching. Talent level in high school is different than talent level in college. Our college on the field talent is very poor lately. Specially on defense.

Actually I don't think u do got it.....

--pretty sure we had the top recruiting class in the nation 1 year ago
--the entire offense was bad this year...u can say the running backs were not involved either
--shep seemed to get lit up every time he played this season
--Lafell won't fall to the third round
--our D is much improved from 08
--last year's class will start making a difference in 2010, not this class... we return several starters from last year, with upcoming talent from the 08, and 09 classes.
--Boone signed with us

Crazy negative on an almost perfect NSD for LSU. It's like they had a "bash LSU's class" segment planned and today's events didn't follow the script so they just went ahead with it anyway and bashed the program instead.

My thoughts as well. Earlier McSucky said that Kiffin was a top 3 HC as far as recruiting, who bends every rule.
He said if a recruit wants to go to the NFL, then play for Nick Saban.
He sux on usc, but doesn't bash their coaches for not coaching All-World QB Barkley.

Todd is a little bitch.

Come on rantards... Can you honestly say you disagree with that? LSU can't coach up players, they don't play talented freshman, they can't get the ball to play makers, what is your problem??? This seems like an accurate assessment for ESPN

Talent in Louisiana differs from year to year. Some guys should have been 2 stars but because they signed with LSU, they were 3. Probably the same for some 4 stars. My opinion. I would have to go back and break it down completely but I have felt like that for the last several years. Maybe I am wrong but I don't think so.

The moral of the story and a good point for those who dont know shite about football is that you could have a fricking all-star team of skill position players on offense and it wouldnt mean shite if you dont have an offensive line that can create time for passing and holes for running. Hopefully that will change next year.

Dude just basically ripped Miles to shreds. Said our overall talent level has steadily declined over the last 3-4 years. What an idiot. Try following recruiting McStupid.

The company he works for grades LSU as #1 in '09 and probably 5 or 6 this year. What a maroon!

I agree. We are recruiting talented guy out of high school, but we are not developing them into talented college players. Really talented out of high school =/= maintaining LSU's talent level

-- Our talent has slipped over each of the last 4 years
Possibly...not crazy to say that it has (post season awards have declined, although certainly not the only barometer) definitely true of last year...just look at the manhandling of both lines, even with Black.
quote:

-- The receivers weren't involved in the offense
not crazy to say that either
quote:

-- Shepard was wasted
In most eyes, definitely
quote:

-- LaFell is a 1st round talent who will get drafted in the 3rd round
possibly
quote:

-- Our defense isn't that great
better than 2008 (does that really mean anything?) but overall not great, so true
quote:

-- We're going to have to rely on this class to produce right away
judging by the starters lost and not many young contributers last year, this is not a stretch at all

I didn't see what was said, but if the above is accurate, I don't see where what McShay said is that far off.
