That’s the problem, McBland thought he had SEC talent and you thought it was mid level. Well the proof was in the pudding, it was cellar level talent where it proved it’s worth

In 2021 LSU football had arguably its worst season in 2 decades. Was it because they had such inferior talent that 3-5 vs. the SEC was the best they could do? LSU had 12 players drafted from that team 5 months later, second only to national champion Georgia, so it would seem LSU should have had enough talent to go better than 3-5. Or was it the coaching and overall in-game approach was horrible?

A year later a competent a proven HC takes over a team that everyone on here thinks has the least depth and talent of any LSU team in 20+ years. They were picked to finish lower in the SEC west standings than they had been in over a decade. Yet, that guy goes 9-3 and plays in the SEC championship game. Was it that the 2022 was far more "talented" than the 2021 team? Or was it the coaching? You know the answer.

Point being, people want to shite on LSU's players for their "lack of talent". But are they unfairly being punished for terrible coaching? Just like the 2021 football team.

We've been having this debate for several months now and no one is going to change their opinion at this point. But I'm very confident in believing at least 150 (maybe more) coaches (including assistant coaches at D-1 programs) could have done a significantly better job with this team than McMahon did. Does that mean getting them to the NCAA Tournament? No. But they would not have been unequivocally the worst team in the SEC...which is what McMahon "accomplished" this season.

Many seem to think that all he needs to do is find "better talent" and everything will be peaches and cream. I'm saying it is going to take a COMPLETE change in his coaching approach to fix this mess he's created. Just like the 2022 football team, even if they brought in a great class, would have still been shite under Ed Orgeron because of his terrible gameplay philosophy, the 23-24 basketball team, even if they bring in some good transfers, will be shite unless McMahon significantly changes his approach going into next season. It's not a matter of simply getting "better players"...which LSU is going to struggle to do this year.

Very unfair to compare Football to Basketball. If you have talent on the floor, it will win games despite bad coaching. Seen it happen many many times.

You can literally go out on the floor with no game plan, no set offensive strategy play zero defense and still win with great talent. Can’t do that in football.

Sorry bud, KJ, 2 highly rated freshman recruits, and a bunch of garbage can horrible players aren’t a “middle of the pack SEC roster” no matter how much y’all try to spin it

SEC basketball coaches assessed the talent and graded LSU to finish middle of the pack based on talent. They did not yet have an understanding of our boy’s coaching.

You think you know better than SEC basketball coaches?

"barely a roster"

We have 10 players for next year and all of 3 open spots. And reportedly Jalen Cook is about to commit.

Wonderful. A roster full of mediocre talent and no actual talent on the roster. So like I said, a roster of tuba players next year.

I'm pretty convinced right now Mc isn't lasting past year 3 and nobody is backing him because they see this mistake.
