Other than him being a successful player that people are attached to from his playing days (for understandable reasons) I don’t get why people on this board acted like he should have a spot set aside for him with the new staff.

The DTs were clearly better under Bo Davis.

I appreciate him stepping up in what was a terrible spot that we were put in making a hire that late but it ain’t show friends it’s show business.

Kyle Williams saved a situation that was not good. Got the most out of a Dline that was just not that talented.

The interior had solid talent and decent depth. The issue was the lack of a true star to elevate the unit. I’m sure they hoped Gooden would be better and more disruptive than he was. Like most of our guys, he was good, but not great. His lack of size didn’t help in some of our games, either.

DE was the bigger issue after Reliford went down. We were very average on the edge and didn’t have much depth at all.

Should have let Frank coach the DL. He was the best coach on staff

LSU spent a lot of money in the portal bringing in the top ranked d-lineman.

Not one of them was a star where they left. They were just the best available in a weak portal class. Gooden was an undersized G5 guy. He was good, but no star. Payton was a huge bust at FSU in 24. He was better here, but still just average. Pyburn was athletically limited and a run specialist. Again, just average.

The interior had solid depth and talent. But there wasn’t a single top recruit or portal player in that bunch. Guillory and McKinley may have been 5 stars, but neither is a star player.

None of this is giving Williams a pass. It’s just the truth. We DID NOT HAVE ELITE TALENT ON THE DL. The good news is that this incoming class should start to change all that.

Going into the season, DT was easily our worst position on paper but ended being our strongest position group.

Guillory made a massive jump under him.

He also signed the best DT unit out of high school that I can remember.

Guillory made some money with his improvement this year. Not sure how much was Kyle Williams vs. Guillory just putting in the work, but he definitely stepped it up.

if by HE you mean Frank Wilson, yes.

Anderson committed under Bo Davis, and Frank Wilson was the main guy that was able to hold his commitment.

Kyle Williams was brought in to bail out Kelly’s super hire bolting after one year.

He did LSU a favor and never really wanted to be a college coach at this point in his life. He did great with it and of course he stopped recruiting the players when he was already being told he’d been replaced. It was mutual, but guy did a lot for his alma mater and we should be grateful and not bitching and moaning about him.

No they weren’t. They were at best equal to this season’s play and that doesn’t account for the fact all the injuries at DT and DE this season.

Bo Davis was an overrated coach, a very good one, but overrated.

They stepped up well considering the lack of a star leader, but CB was the best position group across the season BY FAR. Safety was close behind. Not sure what you’re talking about here.

As long as he hung in here- good for him. Really appreciated him coming back and finally putting together a good full season when we needed it. I hope he finds a good spot in the league where he can be a rotation run stuffer.

Bingo… not sure why people are surprised a guy who all he wants to do is hunt and fish and golf more than BK was bad at recruiting

Well, the coaches may not have been up to par but McKinley hasn't lived up to his hype. He's been good but not off the charts good. Gooden was your most disruptive DL. Everyone else was either average or just above average.

Nobody on the DL has been. Guess that what’s happen when you have a new DL coach every year.
