I don't have a way of calculating for On3, but using the 247 class calculator it would give a class score of 66.38 if we added Reece and Cenac today. Which would be the #1 ranked class in the nation currently. Our current score without those two recruits is 47.97.

A final score of 66 (on 247) would almost assuredly make it a top 10 (nationally) class, with an outside shot at a top 5 class.

You're damned right "incoming". If he had said we're in the month of January right now, that would have been a more accurate statement than we can all agree that McMahon is a better coach than Wade.

Based the MOTHERFLUCK on what???? Show your work please.

Jalen Reece:

LSU: “It was a cool visit. Just knowing that players like Antonio Blakeney and Ben Simmons went there, those are people I look up to. Knowing that its my turn to go and put the jersey on and just having the ability to go over there and play. (Antonio Blakeney) means a lot to me personally. That’s like my big brother. I remember last year he told me to always be the last one out of the gym. He’s given me a lot of tricks and tips and I work out with him in the summer. I love our relationship.

Most of the predictions have been favoring LSU for a while now. I think On3 has him at 81% in favor of LSU. He did visit Providence over the weekend, but it would be (statistically) a bit of a surprise if he doesn't pick LSU tomorrow.

Yeah, I think he chooses LSU tomorrow. It seems like the coaching staff made him a priority from the beginning.

Also, there is a chance Cenac commits to a school in November according to a premium article from on3 last week. I always figured Cenac planned to wait and see how LSU looked this season before making his decision but hopefully, he’s much closer to committing to the good guys.

I worry about Providence. They are throwing around big money trying to make a splash in recruiting this year. They already pulled a fairly high ranked small forward that LSU was recruiting in this class, Jamier Jones.

I was worried for a bit too about that Providence visit this past weekend. Especially considering Jamier Jones and Jalen Reece are really good friends and AAU teammates. But from what i’ve heard + all of the predictions it seems we have this one locked up.

Mosely and Gilhool make up for the miss on Jamier Jones. McMahon wasn’t going to let Providence outbid him again for Jalen since he’s really the only top 100 pg we had a real chance with. We’ve been in his recruitment for a long time.

People will still complain because it’s not going to be top of the SEC this year, but give Mac a few years with these high level 4 year guys rolling in every year and it’s gonna be a machine. Just have to have patience and let the classes start stacking and being efficient in the portal

Why should I be satisfied with a potential 5- or 6-year turnaround? Excuses after excuses follow the Mcmaniacs. If LSU is not in the tournament this year, he should be on the hot seat. If LSU can't even make the NIT, McMahon should be canned.

You're right. You want what you want and you WANT IT NOW!

Poor PNG Futbol is not satisfied. Maybe just find another team to cheer for.

It doesn't have to take 5-6 years for a "turnaround" in basketball. It didn't BEFORE the freedom of transfer era. But it especially doesn't now. Hell, the last LSU HC turned it around in two! Same for the current #2 team in the nation (Alabama) who had far less of a basketball history than LSU prior to Oats' arrival.

No one expected LSU to reach the NCAA Tournament in McMahon's first year. However, he fell woefully short of reaching even the lowest preseason expectations in several years.

There was hope LSU could at least be competitive last season. After a bad non-conf. performance where they were blown out by every major conf. opponent they played, the were able to turn things around in SEC play.

This year they are picked to finish 14th in a 16 team SEC. That doesn't mean they will, but it is a snapshot of the evaluation of the program from the outside. Hopefully LSU is this year's "South Carolina"...who made the NCAA Tournament despite being picked to finish last ahead of last season.

We have some on here who presumably because they really don't follow CBB much outside of LSU, and then only for a few months in Jan/Feb, who seem to be content that the program should have virtually no expectations of success any time soon. That, despite the fact immediate turnarounds in basketball are not all that uncommon. Why men's basketball continues to be the only major sport which has such a low level of expectations continues to be mindboggling. Even in basketball that was never really the case before.

It's ok to have reasonable expectations. I don't think reaching or in serious contention for a NCAA Tournament appearance in year 3 is unreasonable. If the team fails to do so this year McMahon will be the first HC in (nearly) 30 years who failed to reach the NCAA Tournament within 3 years of taking the job. Brady, Johnson, Jones, Wade all did so.

It’s easier to overhaul a roster now, but it’s still a multi year process to overhaul a program. McMahon is choosing to do the latter. They’re hopeful for the tourney this year but I really think starting next year it will become the expectation with the talent he’s bringing in

I am not satisfied with McMahon. Yes. I stopped donating funds to men's basketball because of his poor performance. It doesn't take long to overhaul a program in today's environment. If he is indeed playing the game that was successful in the past and can't adapt to the current landscape, he is destined to failure.

If people are happy with the past two years, then good for them.

I AM NOT SATISFIED.

Of course you`re not satisfied,if LSU would have hired you we would have
won it all your 1st year.WHAT A MORON.
MM was given a longterm contract to build a program, a culture, for LONG
TERM SUCCESS not to be a flash in the pan.As fans we live in a fast food
society we want it yesterday, but how good is the food.
You people think that 5 star players want to flock to LSU because it`s LSU,
it dosen`t work that way.The last time LSU was a name in BB was in the Dale
Brown era ,thats 20-25 years ago. These recruits weren`t even born yet.MMs
recruiting picked up when, after last season WHEN HE FINALLY PROVED
HE COULD WIN SOME GAMES.They werent coming here b4 .You have to have some success for recruits to take notice.By the way how many Nate
Oats are out there, they are not a dime a dozen.Support your team or go
follow ALABAMA.

I get that people aren’t satisfied with the results the last two years which is warranted. There should be no reason for LSU to not have a competent basketball team. However… we just went 9-9 in conference last year. If we grab a few non conference games (especially Nicholls smh) and we would have been firmly on the bubble.

With that being said, there’s a lot of continuity from last year + a solid recruiting class with some guys that will probably contribute from day 1 + a solid transfer class.

With that being said after finishing middle of the sec pack last year, now that we have an even more improved roster I think a prediction for us to finish 14th is just lazy by the voters.

Relative to many teams, yes. But not exactly. LSU still has 7 new players on this roster. The only regular starter they return is Jalen Reed. They only return two of the top five scorers (Ward and Reed). So while there is some continuity, this is still a team where over 1/2 the roster is new.

Most everyone else in the league feels they have an improved roster too. I don't think LSU being picked to finish 14th is a result of laziness as much as LSU/McMahon aren't going to get the benefit of the doubt in preseason predictions. Of the 16 SEC head coaches, McMahon is only one of three who hasn't taken a power conf. team to the NCAA Tournament. The others are Byington (Vanderbilt) who is in his first year as a major conf. HC and Porter Moser (Oklahoma) who despite not getting OU to the NCAA Tournament yet, has a Final Four appearance on his resume. McMahon is going to have to earn national respect. Until then, he and LSU are going to be overlooked.

This is a spot where McMahon has to start to show he can consistently compete in the SEC. That won't be easy. The SEC looks to be really good. Nine teams are ranked in the top 25 to open the season. The next closest is the Big 12 with 6. But the difficultly level is unlikely to decrease in subsequent years so it will be hard to say "wait until next year" if LSU is not competitive this season.
