Yes, that never made sense. Even if Reese was headed to the WNBA next season or otherwise not playing college basketball after this season, the first semester she’d have nothing to lose and just forget schoolwork would be the upcoming one, Spring 2024. She would then not be accountable until the summer. But had she neglected schoolwork in Fall 2023, she would not be eligible in January 2024.
Ben Simmons spent his only Spring semester here not doing one bit of schoolwork. He had no worries on that score because he knew he’d be a millionaire that June and sure wasn’t returning to LSU.

Kim is definitely going to go portal’n again. They were already short on scholarship players (2?), now Poole is off the team, Reese is almost certainly not returning, Smith might be out an extended time. The best case scenario of having only 1-2 spots to fill went out the window quick.
It might be a while before ADR is a legit contributor, so even if they land strong they will need to hit on at least 1 post in the portal.

Kim has made it clear she is still on the team and will be back at some point, Reese is even resharing all the team wins on her social media. Now Poole is gone pecan. I think that hurts LSU's depth and potential ball handling abilities but she wasn't going to make or break this team. The issue is we don't have post depth.
LSU will have to hit the portal super hard this coming spring. The post depth is way too thin and there is not enough overall size beyond ADR and Reese. Kim probably should have added one more true post this past offseason.
They will certainly have to add at least 3 players from the portal, maybe more in addition to hoping they land Cambridge and or Strong. I think Cambridge is a legit possibility but rumor on the street is Strong is leaning towards UNC right now.

I’m talking about returning next year. I think this suspension probably won’t help those chances. Might be a little premature on Smith, but I’m curious how quick and effectively she returns next year if it is an ACl.

Well, assuming HVL/Reese leave (even if its not a good decision), LSU will have 5 open spots between the remaining HS class and the portal. They need to go out and add at least 2 more posts. I think ADR/Morrow/Smith isn't enough, we need more depth than that. And likely add another couple guards. If LSU lands Cambridge, they have their PG the next 4 years and the focus will be to add another athletic guard who can score in addition to what they have now.
Smith will play next year. If its worse case ACL, I'm sure she will be rolling by the end of the OOC schedule but it'll take a little bit of time to work out the rust and get back up to speed potentially.

Wonder if there are any more good HS players that are still unsigned we can go after if we whiff on our remaining 2 targets

I could be wrong, but I think it’s a bit late to enter the picture on HS girls. It doesn’t seem to be the same as men’s where recruitments can change over night.

Strong and Cambridge are the only ones left LSU could sign. There are a couple others who haven't signed but its way too late for that. Ironically their chances with those two were always much higher than Joyce/Koval.
But this recruiting cycle all around was just odd to me... Idk how much of Kim's health issues this summer played into it but none of it made much sense to me. She seemed to let Redus run with it and now she will have to work extra harder in the portal and next cycle.

Disappointing to say the least. I think Redus was reading his press clippings a little. They will need to hit the portal hard for post players next cycle for sure.

Angel posted a picture in the PMAC. Hopefully that’s a good sign we see her return Thursday night, even if it’s in a limited capacity.
