LSU is off to a torrid recruiting start in the 2024 class, notching 16 commitments on their board before the calendar turns to June. The Tigers currently sit at No. 11 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings but have a real shot a second consecutive top-five class if their chips fall in the right direction.

A laundry list of major official visitors will be in and out of Baton Rouge this summer as Brian Kelly and Co. look to lock down the top prospects inside The Boot and out of it. LSU either has a commitment from or is trending in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) for each of the state’s top 10 prospects and a few more outside of the state.

“The focus for the LSU coaching staff and Brian Kelly has been to put a fence around the state of Louisiana,” On3 national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman said. “In this 2024 recruiting cycle, which is loaded with talent, LSU is capitalizing. The Tigers already have a commitment from five of the state’s top 10 recruits, and they’re also trending for the rest of the players in On3’s Louisiana top 10.”

While there have definitely been stronger classes in Louisiana, getting all of those guys would basically lock LSU in to signing the top 10 players out of the state of Louisiana. Is there any other program that dominates their home state like LSU often does? Even Georgia, who is the biggest, by far, program in their state doesn't lock down the state.

Toris gonna be pissed. Koby is the only player in the LA top 10 not referred to at all. Frankly they should have.

I think it's just different with LSU not having any competition in state.

You could arguably say the same thing about Georgia (Tech is really no threat) and Tennessee (Vandy is not going to be out Tenn. for in state guys Tenn really wants). I guess maybe the only other comp is Ohio State. But even then, I don't think they (almost) completely lock down the state like LSU often does in Louisiana.

Meh, I’d say it’s because the amount of transplants in other states. Atlanta and Nashville have had people move from all over. It’s created a new generation that doesn’t care as much for the flagship university.

In Louisiana, people aren’t flocking to the state, so most of the kids have roots in Louisiana, grew up raised in Lsu football, and have many more family members in the state than just a mom and dad that they want to be close with.

Georgia is recruited by about 7 elite power 5 programs within a 2 hour radius of its borders, and is a much more transient state. Louisiana is an island with no major power 5 programs as close to its borders sans A&M, which is 3 hours from west Louisiana and is borderline even a major program. Not to mention LSU fandom is multigenerational in large point for Louisiana residents.

Captain My Man,
Ohio St laying out the RED carpet, and going all out this weekend for our Dominick McKinley!! He is a MUST GET for CBK and staff for 24, no ifs buts or ands, you cannot let a 5* DL from right here leave our and his Home State of Louisiana. This has me feeling like a recent past recruitment of Ol Lard Arse from Amite. Though I think McKinley is better for sure, ranked pretty similar at this stage, I think Fata$$ was 5th DL in the country— dropped closer to signing day, and that was his day to be thought of as worth shite. Dominic McK is a must.

Have him visit Columbus in December. I'm from there, used to be a Buckeye, and turned into a Benedict Arnold once I lived in LA. Now I hate the Buckeyes.

Hopefully this is just a free trip and he'll end up a Tiger...

There are very few comparisons. LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State, PSU. If there were a real football program in New York or New Jersey they would be a mention.

Indiana, Colorado, and Nebraska aren't talent rich enough to supply Notre Dame, Colorado, and Nebraska - making them more reliant upon regional or national recruitment.

LSU is in a very special advantageous position when it comes to football talent. But the recruiting isn't a given.

Out of state schools like Florida State used to feast on Louisiana talent (when the program fell apart in the 90s). Dinardo started the resurgence and Saban and then Miles cemented it. Kelly seems to have rebuilt networks that were damaged by the end of Ed's tenure.

We should all be optimistic about the program. There's an adult in charge again
