Well if you look at the early entrants #'s are pretty similar...but I’d argue that the people leaving AL early is because of high round picks while LSU loses guys who have no business leaving early.

2018:
LSU- 6 (including Key and Valentine)
AL- 5

Early entrants:
2017:
LSU-6
AL-5

2016:
LSU-4
AL-5

2015
ALABAMA-3
LSU-1

2014
LSU- 3
ALABAMA-3

Bama juniors don't have to leave because their families are taken care of already.

High school player with the ability to play for LSU or Alabama is going to score a lot of tail in high school so is more prone to have kids out of wedlock because who really wants to wear a rubber

I haven't seen any recent data, but I do recall a graphic from 2011 where this was discussed on CBS or ESPN around the time of the "game of the century". At that time, LSU was #1 in early defections and Alabama was #2, but LSU had twice as many as Alabama. It was jaw dropping. I don't remember how many years that stat took into account though, but it probably included years pre-Saban when Alabama was average.

Look at 2012. LSU had a very good offense, but not much of a defense. There were some NFL caliber jr's who left after 2011 and that really hurt in 2012. If those players had stayed LSU would have beaten Sabama again in the regular season and probably have gone on and won the NC. LSU didn't recruit well enough to replace those players with young talent. LSU desperately needs some of these draft eligible players to return for next season. Esp on the defensive line. They just haven't recruited well enough in that position to replace these draft eligible jr's on the team. I didn't think this was LSU's year, I really believed next season they would be in the situation they are in right now. At least O has proven he can win at LSU if he can get these La. players to go to LSU.

A lot of those guys have sat behind other guys and don't have the playing time to justify higher draft grades. Therefore it's really easy for Saban to sell them on playing time to up their grades.

If you have guys already getting a ton of playing time (like Tolliver last season) and they still want to leave then I don't think there's much you can do.

Interesting.

So a lot of this perceived inability to hold on to juniors relative to other programs is probably mostly in our minds.

It would not surprise me at all if Saban conveniently left a list of juniors that he felt the team needed to come back to be successful on his desk for the cleaning lady to “throw away” to boosters. I honestly think that he told the boosters that he needed the best players in the country to win, and that they take care of the rest. He seems too smart and organized to be personally involved. He is the mob boss wife who doesn’t ask where the money came from, but spends it freely.

Not really. How many of their early entries went top 3 rounds or undrafted compared to LSU would interest me more.

All of this stems from their aggressiveness in paying kids and their families to do whatever it is they need to sustain a dominant program

The juniors need to be shown the statistics of previous juniors leaving as in did they make a team or are they looking for work. Juniors should not leave unless they are going to go in rounds 1-2. I realize many of these kids want to go to help their families but most don't make it and their short term windfall dries up quick.

We not have 6 seniors in our two deep. Part of that ismjuniors leaving early. Part of it is poor recruiting in 2014 and 2015. Hopefully we not lose 2 white and Williams.

Detielier said every one else should come back as they would not have first day or even second day draft grades. We will probably lose at least one more because of,agents or family.

If we are able to keep the losses to a minimum we can be a final four contender next year as well. Still have to beat Bama in Tuscaloosa to do that

Bama juniors know they're coming back to compete for a National Championship.

Lately, LSU juniors haven't beaten Bama their entire career.

Not really comparable situations.

The difference is that all of Bama juniors that leave are ready for the NFL and LSU loses juniors that are not but could certainly still help LSU. Look at last year. Bama lost Fitzpatrick, Harrison, Payne, Ridley and Scarborough. They were all drafted and with the exception of Scarborough, taken within the first 100 picks. For LSU, Guice, Jackson and Key were justified in leaving early and a strong case can be made that Key should have stayed. Weathersby and Tolliver had no business leaving early. In prior years, players like Dupre, Rashard Robinson, Anthony Johnson, Chris Faulk, Sam Montgomery, Michael Ford all would have been better off returning. Bama has far fewer players that fit that bill.
