Personally I think they are EXTREMELY TALENTED young ladies that represent LSU in an extraordinary way!!! They all love LSU and my wife and I love them all!

Michigan proving you don't need team full of elites to win it all.. their 3 AA above 39.7 were all JO gymnasts..

OU proved that many times over the years. Michigan was fun to watch this year. I think LSU can get close to that trio with Aleah, Haleigh and Kiya

I think A couple of routines between Kiya and Haleigh should be tweaked construction wise but they have all the ability in the world.

-Move Kiya down the lineup on bars (she gets penalized for going first)
-Half Bryant’s bars dismount, more stuck landings
-Water down Kiyas beam routine, Get rid of switch half in particular
-Water down Bryant’s dismount on floor to something simple

That alone will raise both their AA scores by a full .10 alone IMO

Aleah comes in highly decorated. I just hope we don’t get carried away with her routine construction. I’m for letting her do difficulty but let’s be smart about it.

We got to coach better in a couple areas but I’m excited about our potential next year. Getting Kai back and Dunne getting more involved will also be big for us.

Lexi graber just announced she’s coming back next year, big news for Bama. Now they’re only losing ~1 routine (their lead off on beam) and I know they have at least one stellar JO kid coming in next year.

Honestly confuses the hell out of me why the LSU beam coach who never competed a switch half in her beam routine ever at LSU has so many girls doing that leap instead of a straddle quarter, straddle jump, or simple split to beat jump

I’ll be honest. We need to get ride of all rotating leaps unless we have someone very gifted. It does not appear to be required (see Florida’s routines) and it kills us in terms of both consistency and execution scores.

Some of this carried over from DD but LSU for years has been taking beam routines from JO kids and doing the same thing at the college level. Dunne, Kiya, Ballard, D'Antonio, Campbell all did the switch half series as JO athletes and then they are doing it in college.

I don't know how much true control Gnat had year 1 but I think Gnat and Jay need to step in and change this. DD was always so big about difficulty. I think theres a time and place with it, but if the kid isn't hitting their splits or are often having checks on it, its pretty absurd to keep that in the routine. If the coaches don't see this I don't know what to say. It impacts scoring and consistency.

I recall a article by FloGym years ago about difficulty on beam at the super six and LSU was doing far and away the most difficulty. Very few were getting their difficulty through their leaps, which was what LSU was doing.

Would LOVE to see Kiya do this leap series.

LINK

It's still difficult, unique and she's done the switch split jump before.

Was expected for her to transfer into a manager role. Could never shake the injury bug unfortunately. Glad she will still be part of the program moving forward.

Yes, what they do with it will be interesting. Many, many, things they could do.

Would love to have Leah but haven’t seen anything of her being officially released from her NLI although there are rumors going around.

There was also some buzz of Sophia Butler looking around but haven’t heard a lot more on that end in a while

So 357, who do you think it will go to? Someone on the team or someone new? (Can never keep track of
Who is and isn’t on scholarship but I don’t know that there is anyone glaring that should be on scholarship but isnt)

They could give it to someone on the team, maybe bring up a 22 kid early, or offer someone else. Timing and the right situation is needed for 2 of those 3 to happen.

But who on the team is not on scholarship where it is necessary (bryant, dunne, and arenas are on scholarship, schennikova, rivers, and johnson, finnegan, johnson, and tatum). That leaves three open (including Smith) - I guess they could give it to Brock? I wouldn't think Ballard makes sense, since I assume she's on TOPS anyway (though, I know there is prestige associated with getting the athletic scholarship). Otherwise, it seems there are at least two open (since d'antonio won't get one and it doesn't seem to me that any other rising juniors would (rau, nibbs, ryan...).

Ryan is the most likely of the rising juniors to get a scholarship. If Rau were to get one, my guess is that it wouldn’t be until senior year if at all. Yes Ryan only made one competitive lineup this year and struggled but every exhibition vault we saw from her was spot on, and she’s likely to make the vault lineup next year, especially if Edwards and Durante don’t come back. Even if they both do, unless Brock upgrades to a 1.5, I’m guessing that the Durante/Brock vault spot will go to another 10.0 SV vaulter like Ryan. Correct if I’m wrong about this but another factor that may make it more difficult for Ryan and Ballard to be awarded a scholarship over another gymnast on the team, despite their contribution(s) is the fact that they’re from Louisiana. Might make slightly more sense to give it to an out of state gymnast
